Hi,
If your study is specific to only a single organization, then your study will be based mainly on secondary data, i.e., through Exit Interview Forms. When an employee is leaving the company, the HR conducts an exit interview with that employee and records the data on an exit interview form. You can now review those details to understand why that employee chose to leave the organization. In this case, your objectives can be:
1. To collect the data from the Exit Interview Form.
2. To identify the main reasons (both organizational and personal) which led to the resignations of the employees.
3. To suggest and implement various retention schemes.
If the scope of your study relates to any particular industry, for example, "attrition in the BPO industry," then your objectives can be:
1. To understand the present level of attrition in the BPO industry.
2. To analyze the attrition rates in two different categories - those that can be managed and those that cannot be managed.
3. To comprehend both job-related and environmental factors contributing to employee attrition in the BPO industry.
4. To propose various retention schemes.
Regarding the synopsis, you can explain:
- The importance of the project (i.e., why the project/topic is necessary).
- Definition of attrition and the formula to calculate the attrition rate.
- Problem identification (the problem that needs to be solved).
- Background information (about attrition).
- Problem definition (the title of the project).
- Objectives.
- Literature review (list of articles that you referred to).
- Methodology of the study.
- Conclusion.

So, tell me, for this project, should I calculate the attrition rate by using the specific formula, or is it enough if I find the data from the Exit Interview Form?

Hi Sahana,
I will be working on the topic of Employee Attrition Rate in the Retail industry for my summer internship. The data I will be collecting will be from employees who have less than six months of experience in that sector.
I would like to know what other methods can be adopted for collecting data regarding high attrition in that particular sector, other than an exit interview. I will be working for only one company that has many retail outlets.
Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you.
