Dear all,

I joined a reputed FMCG company a couple of days back as a summer trainee. I am tasked with designing:

1) An Induction Module
2) Detailed Induction Schedule
3) Effectiveness Measures
4) A complete joining kit

Any possible inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Hoping for quick replies.

Hi Gauravi,

I hope you need the entire induction program for training new employees who are joining your organization. In this regard, I suggest creating a comprehensive module on induction that covers all the information a newcomer would like to know about the organization, such as:

- The origin of the company
- Its core competencies
- The position of the organization in relation to its main competitors
- Its mission, vision, and core values
- The organization's growth rate (last 5 years trend analysis)
- The organizational hierarchy, including a visual representation of department heads in the form of an organizational tree
- The career path for new joiners
- Brief introductions to each department in the form of one-liners

I believe these points will be sufficient to design your induction module.

When scheduling the induction, consider the following:

- Plan your schedule realistically
- Make the best use of the available time
- Allocate enough time for essential tasks (e.g., HR formalities)
- Include contingency time for unexpected situations
- Avoid overburdening the schedule to prevent new joiners from losing interest or feeling stressed

Before assessing the effectiveness of the induction, define what you aim to measure. You can measure various aspects such as IQ, loyalty, competency, and product knowledge related to the sector. Conducting aptitude tests and subjective assessments can help evaluate the effectiveness of the induction.

Finally, the joining kit should include a brochure or CD about the organization, a copy of the induction schedule, an HR guide, and information about the materials provided during induction.

I hope this information is helpful to you. For further clarification, please feel free to reach out.

Regards,

Sudeshna Saha

Hi Sudeshna,

The information you provided is very helpful to a fresher to conduct the induction programme. I would like to know more about a joining kit as I have been given the responsibility of preparing it. I am struggling to decide on the topics that should be included to make it useful for the new joiners. I plan to give the joining kit as a brochure to the employee on the day of joining in case they miss the induction programme. It should be beneficial for them.

Please help me in this regard.

Thanks in Advance,
Sushma
