I have been working in the HR Department. I have recently decided to shift to the academic sector and join an MBA College as a Lecturer. I have also decided to pursue a PhD in HR. I want some suggestions regarding the topics of HR in which I can do my PhD.

Dear Iftikhar,
I have met a few people who have completed a Ph.D. in HR, but these individuals have been practically ineffective in their HR functional roles, failing to make any significant impression in their careers. Eventually, they transitioned to theoretical fields within HR and became advisors, consultants, or corporate HR experts, among other roles.
Based on my personal experiences and observations of these individuals, I have come to the conclusion that HR is a field for practical individuals who master their craft through experience and continue to progress forward.

I wanted a suggestion. I practice graphology. If I take graphology in the context of the selection procedure, would that be a feasible topic? Graphology is "handwriting analysis" which is used extensively in European countries as a selection tool.

Hi, Ph.D...oops, "searching a topic" is a Ph.D. in itself. Hehehe...just kidding. Just go ahead with what you feel is best you can do in research rather than asking someone, as it will confuse you so much. Believe me, it's true. Nothing is correct in this world, and everything is right in this world. When it comes to research, what is being followed and what is not being followed, what is true and what is not true; all mixes and becomes a biryani.
My suggestion: just go ahead and do research on the subject that first came to your mind. If there is no company in India using the technique, maybe with your research someday, you will be hired for your consultation service. Best of luck.

Please do not look for quick fixes...there is no substitute for hard work…if you will approach it frivolously you will end up like those examples cited by ‘Parthsarthy’ as “…who did Phd in HR but these people are practically failure in their HR functional role to make any impression in their career and finally they turned to theoretical fields in HR and become advisors or consultants or corporate HR masters etc.”
You my like to give yourself some time (say 3-4 weeks) to read about current topics and trends in HR in some popular and research oriented journals (choose some good international/national journals – not something like Indian Mangers or HRD magazines) and see what topic catches your eye and intrigues your intelligence to prompt you to explore further in the topic.
Your guide is going to be deciding factor about the quality of your work…choose wisely.
