Hi,
It is an awesome exercise on decision-making. It is always sensible to base your decision on rationality and logic and not get carried away by emotions. Hence, if I were in the place of the train driver, I would run the train on the operational track only, even if it means sacrificing a group of ignorant and adamant children. At least I would not put the lives of hundreds of passengers as well as the child who is innocently playing on the unused track at risk.
