An issue regarding Comp off in my organization.
Herewith, I brief you about it.
In my organization (I have joined about 6 months back),
As there was no control and proper system in place, many of my colleagues used to avail comp off by working on weekly offs. Sometimes, it used to involve availing leave on a working day, submitting a leave application, and then later working on a weekly off and adjusting the leave to extra work on Sunday. About a couple of months back, I introduced the system of Comp off. Work on weekly off must be compensated within the next 3 days, or else the comp off will lapse. Thus, there was some resistance to change, and now it is slowly settling down.
But now, the issue has resurfaced with the Staff category. In the case where a person works in the production department, and there are 3 engineers in each shift, what should be done in case of one shift engineer's absence to ensure work proceeds smoothly without any hindrance? The management's suggestion is to let the other 2 shift engineers work for an extra 4 hours each and then get a day compensatory off (in case of 2 such instances i.e., 4+4 hrs each). This proposal is being strongly opposed by other departments as they also work extra hours during month ends. As an HR professional and an employee of the organization, I also oppose this.
Kindly share the practices in your organizations and how you have resolved similar hot issues.

At my organization, comp. off is for admin. staff. Production and Finished Goods Department staff receive incentives or overtime. Therefore, within three months, this comp. off can be availed by admin staff, including HR Department staff.

Hi Sumana,
Here, I am submitting a COFF form. Whenever an employee works excess duty, they have to submit this form; otherwise, it's not calculated. If you have any good COFF policy, please send it to me.

The above issue is common to all company,, so in our company our MD cancel the COM OFF,,,and paying the payment as a OT ("Over Time") so now a days we are not facing the problem of the same,,,,,,,,,

Hey, it's better to ask the person to continue the next shift as well, so that he can avail one comp-off in one go rather than asking for 4+4. This is how we follow it: if the next shift person doesn't report, the first shift person has to continue with the second shift until the next shift person takes over. By doing this, you won't encounter any problems with other departments.
Month-End Responsibilities
Coming to month-end, everybody works more than the normal working hours. It's a responsibility.
