In manufacturing units, the only leaves available is the earned leave or annual leave with wages. The number of leave shall be one day for every 20 days worked in the preceding year. That means the maximum number of leave to which an employee may be entitled shall be 15 considering 52 weekly offs and a few holidays. Please refer to the Factories Act for details. When employees of establishments coming under Shops ....Act have casual leave and sick leaves available during their first year of service itself, the employees under the Factories Act do not get casual leave nor sick leave but they have to wait for one year to get their leave credited.

Dear New Member,

Welcome to Citehr. As already told by Mr. Madhu our Ld. Member you are to go through chapter VIII on leave with wages under Factories Act, 1948 for eligibility, grant of EL & accumulation of Earned Leaves. In general most the states have enacted their own National & Festival Holidays and Casual & Sick Leaves Act. You may approach the labour department for this query. If the state do not have any such act then you of your own may have policy on casual & sick leaves. In the state of Haryana we have the Punjab Industrial Establishments (National & Festival Holidays and Casual & Sick Leaves) Act, 1965 which provides us provisions for the grant of these Holidays & leaves for factory workers.
Submitted plz.
