Dear All Friends
Can you guide me about the difference between salary increment and revision,
what is the criteira, can we find that which compnay gives more revision %, and whichone gives more rate of increment. than we can prepare ourself for that getting best opportunity.

Hi Uttam,
A revision in salary means, a revision of salary structure in all components, taking into account the IT considerations, and it is given to make a position market competitive.
An increment in salary means a routine increase in salary as a whole in a given period, generally annual.
e.g. if we revise a gross salary by 25%, we have to revise all the components of salary by 25%. But, in increment we may add the increased amount to any component.

To the best of my knowledge , salary increment is the % amount that we increase as per the company norms. in the appraisal
and salary revision is being done when the salary is increased more than the % appraisal amounts. In salary revision the entire salary strusture is revised and is changed.

Salary revision raise in pay for all employees by whatever % the management decide to make the pay more attarctive and competitive. It is also one of the strategies to reten high performing employees.
Increment is generally pay raise that may be based on performance or is a blanket raise in pay generally by 2.5% of the base pay and it takes place on an annual basis. Sometimes increment is also given to deserving employees (advanced increments) as reward for the job well done or for the consistently outsatnding performance. Some companies also give increments durign the appointment time to ensure that the employee's pay is protcted commensuarate with the skills and knowledge.

Hi All,
1.salary revision: Raise in pay for all the employees to a certain % as per company policy or after certain interval. Exp--6th pay commisison by Govt of India.
2. Salary Increment: This is general term which is applicable to all employee at the time of performance appraisal. PA depends on overall contribution of employee towards org. not only in terms of business but initiative taken by employee, interpersonal skill, Loyality and several dimentions are to taken into account.
Pls revert.....thoughts are aleways welcome.

Hi Uttam,
Salary revision is broader term used for comprehensive review of the all components of remuneration or compensation as a whole.
Salary increment is only one part of basic salary component for increase in pay in the basic based on either on yearly basis in time scale. This is being practiced in most of the government organization and private organizations.
Or performance based pay as per the agreement or policy of the company for example sales commissions etc which is integral part of salary.

To be comprehensive, revisions in salary is made for the purpose of external as well as internal equity as a product of job analysis and market factors.
Increments are a customary periodical process of increase in salary as a product of periodical appraisals.

Hi,
As correctly mentioned by Tarun, a salary revision could be just a components adjustments but as a whole there could be no increase. But salary increment means that there would be an increase in the total CTC of an employee.
