You can celebrate birthday by this way that I already recommend to most of the companis and they implemented it, its a complete practical appraoch you say.
Last friday of the Month companies celebrated all employees Birthday & Anniversary on the same day, all the employees whose birthday or anniversary fall in that month. If company afford or have a budget for that unless they share few amout by employees also. They gave them a gift by heads/CEO/Directors etc. and have a small party.

Hi all,
In our company we give a special leave to the person if it falls on a weekday. If he/she needs to come for any urgent project deadline (which is rare) we compensate it with crediting a leave on his/her account. We also send him a mail with a good B'Day quotation and marking a CC to all employees.Other than that we keep a small gift and greetings card signed by all employees on his desk so that the employee recieves it next day when he comes.

I think every Company should celebrate the B.day's of thier employes,b'coz it gived the feeling of belongingness.
We celebrate B'day's and wedding anniversaries of our employees.
We send out a nice B'day card /mail to the employee copying to all others. We Distribute Sweats with a Boquet and card and wish him/her .
For anniversaries, we send out a boquet along with Sweat to their residence .

We celebrate employees birthday in the following way:
1) Birthday wishes will be displayed on the notice board and send a copy to all branches through mail.
2) through wishes we also mention contact number so that, other employees can contact as soon as they receives mail from HR
3) A good birthday card signed by Director.
4) HR inform Director, if poss they call personally.
Same way we cele.wedding anniversaries of our employees.

1. We publish the names of the Employees whose Birthday in that month in our In House Magzine.
2. Out of them we are selecting one as a Birthday Boy/Girl.
3. Sending Greeting to Him/Her by Respective Branch Head.
4. We are making call to HIM/HER all staff from corporate office wishing him/her.
5. Celebration by Cutting cake
