The only way to move from Poor to Average, Average to Good, Good to Great or Poor to Great will be through the process of Coaching. Most of the big companies have already realized that . However, there is much to be desired at the execution level. In some companies the onus of coaching lies with managers. In some other companies- it is with the HR Partners or maybe both managers and HR Partners in other companies. Coaching is best when the the coach has no prior information or knowledge about the coachee. Coaching should not be looked at as a stigma or as "residual". It helps an individual to discover the hidden power in himself or herself. Instead of disecting the past, coaching is a forward looking - coachee with the help of a coach will map out future game plan. Coaching is not the same as psycho therapy, counseling, mentoring, consulting etc. Just to elaborate : In therapy, the focus is on past events , feelings etc. However in coaching this is goal oriented and focuses on future. In therapy, the therapist explores the root of problem- however coaching focuses on problem solving.

Hi, Coaching is a process ( not a tool) which enables one to attain one's goal.
S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for the 5 goal setting exercise.
Your goals should be:
S- Specific
M- Measurable
A- Achievable
R- Relevant
T- Time based
Coaching is best done by a professional who knows the art and science of coaching. For your personal coaching you can use the G.R.O.W model. Google it- you will find some material. Also, on youtube you can search for coaching questions.
You can refer to the link on the right side of this page- Coaching for Personal Best Performance.ppt
All the best.

Dear friends Coaching involves highlighting the key potential skills and abilities of individual and try to help them to realise it. A coacher is a facilitator to some extent. Mariappan
