Have you read sufficient material about the vision and mission of the company? Who creates the vision and mission, and why is it done?

Top leadership is responsible for creating the vision and mission of the company. Both are for the enterprise, not any department or section within a department. Vision is the mental picture of the future. The mission is a path to achieving this mental picture.

The compliance team is a part of the company's department. It cannot have any vision or mission. If a marketing manager had raised this query, it would have been considered because the market is forever in flux, and to outcompete competitors, it is important to do market research constantly and introduce something new in the market. In contrast, the work of the compliance team is steady, and unlike the marketing department, there is certainty about the outcome of their work.

Against this backdrop, what you need to do is to devise the objectives of the department, and not the vision and mission. If some senior has told you to do this, then it is sheer out of ignorance. Tell that person to read this reply.

The various departments work under the directives of the directors as per given policy guidelines. Look out for getting the correct directives and define the guide lines for your department.

As compliance is very critical to the organisation you should plan 0% deviation on the compliances

On time obtaining the registrations, licenses and renewals
On time submission of returns
No deviations in the Acts
0 Fines, damages, penalties etc
response to the authorities in stipulated time for any inspection notes
0 Showcause notices to the organisation other than the inspection notes
ensuring 100% contractors compliances
