Hi everyone!

I have few skepticisms to be cleared out. One of my friends is facing this problem:

PHASE 1

1. The boss of the company for which she is working was trying to create rift between her & her immediate superior (HR Manager) by sneaking around and creating misunderstandings. The situation wosened so much that the excutive felt the need of resigning from the company & the manager (AS INSTRUCTED BY THE HEAD) accepted the resignation and didn't even allow the executive to serve the notice period. However, SURPRISINGLY the boss called her up the next day and refused to accept the resignation of the executive an told her to join back considering her good performance. He, on the other hand, took a one to one session of the manager & yelled at her & refuted her for the same.

The distraught manager told the executive everything after couple of days. All the misunderstandings were cleared between them.

Now that the manager & the execute used to share good rapport, the head was pretty uncomfortable due to unknown reasons.

PHASE 2.

Although the HR department in the company is streamlined, the Manager needs to take permission from the boss for EVERY small things. Even the decisions regarding sactioning of leaves, salary uploading, distribution of incentives, which is SOLELY HR function, is decided by the boss. there is NO DECENTRALISATION. The boss interferes in the recruitment and selection pattern, tests, EVERY DAMN thing.

In this situation, the HR manager feels absolutely reduntant and useless, coz she has NO AUTHORITY.

My queston to every one is:

Now that the HR Manager knows that the Boss, whome she used to trust ,has shown his true colors by sneaking around about her in front of hr executive, what should she do? She feels absolutely unvalueable in the organization as SHe has no AUTHORITY even ater holding the position of an HR Manager with a staff strenght of over 150+.

Should the HR manager Leave the company??? what should she do......

Hey Shwets,

these are the kind of things that usually happen cause the person who is above the HR manager wants to take control of everything.
Preferebaly I would say is have a 360 degree feedback session and try to implement the feedback on the manager and the sr. manager. This really would help.

These are the things which make you think twice about your job, but there are other ways around it too. Have constant team meetings and please have feedback sessions, I MEAN FEEDBACK NOT NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE ATTITUTES discussion.

This really works as we have done this in our organisation...

Take care

Thank you for the prompt reply, however, to conduct a 360 degree feedback session also permission needs to be sought from the Boss... and i don't think he would allow a session to condeucted wherein there are strong chances of receiving his own criticism.

All Official Activities And Unofficial Interpersonal Skills Needs To Be Controlled In Such Controlled Work Culture.
If Her Boss Is Feels Insecure And Uncomfortable With His Authority And Commanding All Authority And Does Not Want To Share Decision Making With Subordinates She Cannot Go Beyond One Point Of Acceptance Norm.
Small Size Organization Always Has Such Issues And Unless You Replace By Boss With Different Kind Of Leadership Things Will Not Change.
Life Is An Art Of Dealing With Such Situation Take Example
Congress Spokes Person Mr. Abhishekh Manu Singhivi And His Father Is Bjp Sharing Different Ideologies But Both Are Opportunist........but Both Are Claver Than Their Political Masters In Congress And Bjp.
This Is What Matters In Life Opportunism...,adjustment....
Flexibility.......accomodative Nature....

Shewta,
This is kind of atmosphere which comes in to play when HOD of the concerned head is not a good leader, rather a good politician, She being a HR mgr must be holding a good Exp. She should not be afraid of her boss and should make decision how to implement things and should maintain good relationship with employees after this episode there must have a talk of HR exe and HR mgr she on the other hand can tell the truth to the HR exe or take charge and make her presence felt by generating her self esteem.
King is only known by his people, she has to do the same building a good repo with employee under her will stop these kind of activities against her.
This is what i suggest.

Hi Shweta! I am working in a limited company,a HardCoreHR was streamedlined before I joined and newMD got appointed whoz background is of worked in non-corporate. Now company has already lost functioning on his ordered for everything including following labour laws.....we had 3 in HR and when I joined,I am only lookingafter HR and IR resposibilites without authorities that were ther before newMD(non-management studied) and aa oldMDs were with Dr.Degrees and worked in corporate sector with management academic backgound.
The result is since last 14months,17 employees left company and some of them worked for more then 1 decade. So I am also working as if clerk, unauthorised evenif HOD of HR Deptt. Its better to create our own way if we dont fit into Ho ta Hai Chalta Hai business policy...

Dear Shweta
Basicalllly these things happen in a private company which is of unorganised nature. You cannot fight with the boss and at the same time cannot mend him too. So if you are not comfortable working in such situation better look for a change. But change only when you have better opportunity than the existing.

hi sweta,
i m completely agree with Amrender, she should seek the confidence of her HR exe. as she has good repo with HR manager, she can also discuss her problems and difficulties b4 him, so that even in future if such things happen, it can be cared off, but she should be careful in doing that, so that any negative repo did not get generated. her efforts should be firm and polite and able to take people in confidence,
along with this she also has to really focus on her job first, so that the boss don't get any chance to blame her.
We have to manage the situation not run from it, and hence leaving the job should be last option. as the current situation will also test ur potential.
hope every thing will go right.

I solely accept what are the views shared here. I have been facing the same brunt in my organization but not given up.At time I thought I wanna quit. To say I have the designation of Manager - HR, however ever no such decesion making power is given to me. If I take any initiative then the ceo will try to prove that those are non-sense and I am dumb. There have beeen so many instances were my suggestion were dishonoured and later the mgmt took the same decesion.
At one point of time the Directors started favouring me, but this made the CEO more uncomfortable and he started exerting more pressure and making unpleasant remark in public which would hurt me to the core. I was given activites beyond my scope and expected me to perform. I think that he is using me as a shield to protect himself. He is always helbend to prove I am useless. He was never sticking to his words nor be ever clear what he expects. I started losing my confidence but kept faith in myself. I reliazed that the process were not in place hence to sort things out I started working and trying to put our process in place.
If any issue arise in the meeting, all the LOB would be just was used as a scape goat but after few the HR process have started to be place things have eased of.
I suggest that at time when we are in shit its better to keep our mouth shut , trust in our self and put process in place.

For any org if our process are firm and no deviation you will see the results.

Basically, What Matters Is Economics Of Business Until That Is Right And All Decisions And Actions Support The Setting Econoics Of Business Right You Are Also Taken As Mr. Right.
But When Something Advised On longterm Basis As An Value Addition Intiatives ,Which Require Spending then HR Is Always Looser.
Because HR Is Predominantly Farming Businesss which require patience, time and money
Where As Businessminded People Are Hunters..they except quick Result...
