Hi everybody,

I am a freelance recruiter and I do headhunting. I have placed a few candidates, and the companies have asked me to raise the invoice based on their Gross Salary. However, I only know their Cost to Company (CTC). How can I determine their Gross salary? For example, one candidate has been offered 3.8 lakhs per annum. How can I calculate their Gross salary from this information? Please help me. :(

A warm welcome to you on our forum.

Many companies consider CTC and Gross salary to be the same. In fact, they are very similar. To clarify any confusion, ask the company to provide you with the CTC details of the candidates and carefully review all the components.

If the candidates are offered a salary of Rs 3.8 lakhs CTC, examine the various components. Additionally, check if they are entitled to benefits and perks that are not explicitly mentioned in the CTC, such as insurance (both life and medical) and company cars.

For insurance, add the premium to the offered CTC. Regarding company cars, there are two methods to evaluate their value: either through annual rentals if leased or by determining the tentative market value if owned by the company, then taking 1% of the annual costs. However, this area can be ambiguous, and company officials may question it.

Having been in the same profession independently for a while, I recommend that you exclude the annual perks and benefits from your calculations. Instead, base your fee on the annual CTC of the candidates. This approach can help you build goodwill and maintain long-term relationships with companies in this highly competitive field.

Cheers,

Rajat
