I would like to employ people to work an 8-hour day, 5 days a week, which will include a Saturday and Sunday every third week. Am I allowed to request people work on a Sunday, and can someone suggest wording I can include in the employment contract? Thank you.

In the United Kingdom, specifically in Bromley, it is possible to request employees to work on a Sunday, but certain regulations must be adhered to. According to the Working Time Regulations 1998, employees are entitled to a minimum of 24 hours of uninterrupted rest per week, which should include Sunday. However, there are exceptions to this rule in certain industries, such as healthcare, hospitality, and retail.

To include Sunday work in the employment contract, you can consider the following wording:

Sample Wording for Employment Contract:
- "The nature of the role may require employees to work on Sundays as part of their regular schedule. By signing this contract, the employee acknowledges and agrees to work on Sundays when scheduled, in compliance with the Working Time Regulations 1998."

It's important to ensure that the contract is clear and that employees are aware of their obligations and entitlements regarding Sunday work. Additionally, consulting with legal counsel or HR specialists familiar with UK labor laws can provide further guidance tailored to your specific business needs.
