Query Regarding Softex Form and Export Certification
I have a query. Basically, we are a software company, but not registered as an Export Oriented Unit (EOU) or under Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) or in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Under the circumstances, can friends enlighten me if we need to raise a Softex form? The reason for this is, how do we show or get certified by the government that the exports of software/hardware took place from the company and show the same to bankers for raising working capital/loans or show other clients proof of our operations/turnover. Which authority from the government can certify our exports of software/hardware if we are not registered under STPI, EOU, SEZ?
Can anyone throw light on the same, please?
Thanks in advance.

In India, the Softex form is a mandatory document required to be submitted by software exporters to certify the export of software and hardware. Even if your company is not registered under Export Oriented Unit (EOU), Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), or in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), you still need to comply with the Softex form submission.
Here are the steps you can follow to obtain certification for your exports of software/hardware:
Step 1: Obtain Softex Form
- Contact the concerned authorities such as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) or the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to acquire the Softex form.
Step 2: Fill Out the Form
- Complete the Softex form with accurate details of your software/hardware exports, including the invoice details, export value, and other relevant information.
Step 3: Certification
- Submit the filled Softex form along with the required supporting documents to the authorized certifying authority. The certifying authority could be a Chartered Accountant (CA) or an independent auditor.
Step 4: Approval and Certification
- The certifying authority will review your submission and certify the exports of software/hardware from your company. Once approved, you will receive the necessary certification.
Step 5: Utilize Certification
- Use the certified Softex form to demonstrate to bankers for raising working capital/loans or to provide proof of your operations/turnover to clients.
Step 6: Compliance Check
- Ensure that you maintain proper records of your exports and comply with all relevant regulations to avoid any issues in the future.
By following these steps and obtaining the Softex form certification, you can effectively showcase your software/hardware exports and meet the necessary requirements for financial transactions and client verification.
