The employer is at liberty to fix any amount as wages depending on factors like qualifications required for the post, corresponding wages for similar posts in similar industries in the region, etc. However, it shall not be less than the statutory minimum wages if the employment is a scheduled one under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. If not, it should not be below that of the National Floor Level Wages fixed and periodically revised by the Central Government.
