Hi everyone!

Suppose a female staff member has been working for more than 1 year in a company and is earning Rs. 25,000 per month as gross salary. Automatically, she will not be eligible for ESIC. However, is there any other way for her to receive maternity benefits? Will the company have to pay for her maternity leave?

Dear Rajeshwari,

If the company employs more than 10 employees, then maternity benefits will be extended in the above case. Benefits include paid leave for 26 weeks and a medical bonus as per the act if the employer does not provide medical insurance/postnatal care.

Rahul
