We have one factory registered under the Factories Act. We wish to establish another factory in Gujarat. In this regard, do we need to register again, obtain a license, or just send an intimation?

Thanks.

As per Section 6 of the Factories Act 1948, a factory is required to have both registration and a license. Registration is a one-time activity ensuring compliance with basic provisions (e.g., the layout plan, details of manufacturing process, etc.), while a license is an annual requirement extended from year to year. Both registration and a license are necessary before the factory commences manufacturing activity.
