Can you please tell me which details I need to consider under the BOCW Act from contractors? My new startup company is in the building construction industry, and we have various contractors assigned to different site works. I would appreciate guidance on the processes I need to follow under this act.

Timeline: Thirty days before the commencement of construction work

Documents Required: Form 1
Name of Return/Compliance: Notice of commencement of construction work
To be Sent to: Area Inspector who is Asst. Director (IS&H)
Name of the Statute: The Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996

Timeline: Within sixty days from commencement of work

Documents Required:
- Application for Registration in Form 1
- Registration Fees as applicable
- Form IV
- Possession Certificate
- List of Directors & Memorandum of Article
- Estimated cost of project
- Project Report
Name of Return/Compliance: Registration of construction workers
To be Sent to: Registering Officer of the Area who is Deputy Director (IS&H)
Name of the Statute: The Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996

Timeline: Within thirty days of completion of the construction project

Documents Required:
- Demand Draft of 1% of the project cost excluding cost of land, plant & machinery
- Statement of Total amount
Name of Return/Compliance: Welfare of construction workers
To be Sent to: Registering Officer of the Area who is Deputy Director (IS&H)
Name of the Statute: The Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996

As a principal employer, you are liable to take BOCW Licence from your contractors.
