Hello, I am planning to open a small BPO (data entry) office with 10 employees. Can anybody please tell me the correct procedures because different people are giving different suggestions? Some say I have to pay professional tax, some say service tax. Some say I have to register the office in the corporation, some say under small-scale industry. Some say BPO need not be registered. Please guide me in this matter. What are the basic procedures to start an office? Should I apply for a trade license (I am not trading anything)? Please help.

Hi Parthima,

As far as my knowledge goes, you have registered under the Shops and Establishment Act, for which you need to visit the Labor Department. There are different pay slabs based on the total employee strength. Additionally, you may keep your PF and ESI registration on hold since you will only be starting with 10 employees. I believe even the Professional Tax can be deferred. These are the main aspects related to HR laws and registration; apart from these, I don't have much knowledge.

Another effective way to address your concerns is to engage a trustworthy consultant who can assist you with these matters, at least until you are well-established in your business. I hope this information is helpful for you.
