Hi,
I am thinking of shifting my career from being a Generalist HR to becoming a Functional Analyst in ERP, SAP HR consultant. I have close to 3 years of Generalist HR Experience. Can anyone guide me on how to go about this? Would companies consider me based on my HR generalist experience and provide me with training in SAP HR? I would appreciate any pointers.
Thanks in advance, eagerly awaiting your response.

It is a good idea to become an SAP HR consultant, but it is always good to have worked in the strategic part of HR before transitioning to SAP HR. Normally, an SAP HR consultant may end up designing the entire HR system. If a person only has exposure to Payroll and a generalistic view, the growth prospects may be slow.

Hi Hemaa,
You can approach the SAPIENT College in Chennai (Uttamar Gandhi Salai) to understand as they offer a Certification course (awarded directly from SAP Germany) and also provide placement opportunities. However, the course duration is 45 days, and at the end, you need to clear the examination. The fee is around 2.5 Lacs, if I am not wrong. Please check with them.
Best Wishes,

Hi Hema,
It's a good idea. My plans are also the same, but it's difficult to get a break. People strongly recommend going for fake experience. I wonder why. I have even completed my training in SAP-HR and hold 4 years of domain experience, searching for a break in my career.

Hi!
Could someone give an overview of what SAP is all about? I was asked by my employer to learn SAP. Could you tell me about some decent institutes in Bangalore that offer SAP-HR? I have close to two years of hardcore recruitment experience with an idea of all other HR functions.
Waiting for a response,
Vasudha.

Hi Sara,
I am in Hyderabad and have 4 and a half years of domain knowledge in HR. I am planning on joining the SAP - HR course. Can you please tell me where you got your training from?
I had mentioned the same query to someone else sometime ago in this forum but didn't get a reply. Hopefully, I will get a response from you. Awaiting your reply.

Hi Padmaja,
You can attend Siemens; they are charging 2.5 lakhs, and there is Reliance in Ameerpet, which charges 20k. They provide you with a project and a certificate as well. Reliance has a good track record of placements, so you can have a look at it. There is another institute near Sardhi Studio called Peoplesoft; you can check that out as well.
Thanks,
Jai

Hi Hema,
Go ahead and take a course in SAP HR, but many companies are not hiring HR professionals with domain experience. If they do recruit, it's usually through internal channels. Recently, Wipro recruited internally for SAP HR.
You can also consider taking a course at Siemens, but based on my experience, I would say it's a waste of 2.5 lakhs. Make sure to check the institutes, faculty, and whether they provide any projects to work on and assistance with placements.
All the best,
Jai

Dear all seniors,
I am a fresher, recently completed MBA-HR, and have around one year of experience in recruitment (worked with placement firms). ERP-SAP has attracted me since the time I decided to pursue MBA. I wish to make my career in ERP. People say this can increase my job prospects and career growth. Kindly guide me on what I should do in this regard.
