I have worked for a Christian Ministry since July 2010. My wife also joined one year later. I have recently submitted a resignation request, as has my wife. I have been with them from the beginning. The director has changed in between. I asked for 3 months' pay in advance as compensation for both my wife and myself, but instead, they gave me a new set of policies which I had not seen before. I have not agreed to or signed this policy. It was only brought to light when I asked for compensation.

New Policy Details

1. When a staff member resigns, one month's notice must be given in advance by the staff. In the absence of this notice period, one month's pay can be given instead of the notice period.

2. When a staff member resigns and is relieved immediately, then three months' separation pay is provided.

3. If a staff member is terminated from service, then three months' separation pay is given to the staff.

4. It is mandatory to obtain a No Due Certificate from the Finance Department before the final settlement is made.

Could you please advise me if we are eligible for any kind of settlement?

I don't understand what this "No Due Certificate" is. Since I don't handle cash or money, whatever needs to be paid, I forward the payment details to Accounts and they deal with it directly. So, I don't know what I owe them for a No Due Certificate.

Thank you for your time.

I think their conditions are reasonable. You should have served notice before resignation.

Understanding the No Due Certificate

No Due Certificate is nothing but a clearance certificate to be signed by all departments. It is to ensure that you have handed over all the documents and assets of the institution.

Sorry if this wasn't clear. We did serve our notice, and we are still working here! We will only finish our one month by the end of April, which is more than a 30-day notice. All my work is on the office computer, and my wife will hand over everything as we leave.

We don’t have any PF. So are you saying it is unreasonable to ask for any kind of compensation?
