Professional tax is always deducted from the gross salary. Regarding the above-mentioned cases:

Case 1: The professional tax should be deducted by ₹200 as the gross salary is ₹25,000.

Case 2: The gross salary is ₹20,000, falling in the slab of ₹15,001 to ₹20,000, so ₹150 should be deducted.

You need to fill out FORM V, provide a covering letter detailing the payment information, enclose the list of employees' professional tax deductions for the month, and submit these documents to THE DEPUTY COMMERCIAL TAX OFFICER in your area.
