I recently joined as an HR assistant in an enterprise providing housekeeping services. I have a query regarding contract labor: if their working hours are less than the normal working hours mentioned under the Minimum Wages Act, will their wages also decrease proportionately?

Additionally, do we have to follow the minimum wages rules if an employee works less than 8 hours a day?

Please kindly help me. I am waiting for your response.

Thanks & Regards,

No, you cannot pay an employee less just because you can't offer them a job for 8 hours. You are bound to pay them the monthly agreed salary. Also, 8 hours is the maximum working hours. An employer can decide on fewer hours, and it's not a crime.
