Hi Everyone,

It's been a long time since I posted here. There are different types of leadership styles such as:

1) Charismatic
2) Participative
3) Situational
4) Quiet Leader
5) Transactional
6) Transformational

Please shed light on these leadership styles and provide two role models for each style (one Indian example and another non-Indian example).

Thank you.

Hi,

Studying leadership styles can be quite interesting. I had this topic during my first year of graduation, and I remember a few examples:

1) Charismatic Leader

A leader who is able to captivate his audience and create an ardent following for himself through his charisma. This charisma is exercised in his attitude, his speech, and reflected well in his addresses to his followers. His followers are usually so loyal and dedicated that they follow him wherever he leads them. His charisma, of course, is the most enchanting part. e.g., Bill Clinton.

2) Transformational Leader

The leader who is able to change the existing attitudes, thoughts, and beliefs of the populace. The people could have developed such attitudes that hamper their growth and development, and the leader steps right in to change their way of living or working, giving them a new reason, hope, and stance. This leader does not expect his followers to blindly follow him. In fact, he empowers them to think differently, act differently, think anew, and act anew. e.g., Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi.

Though I know the rest vaguely, I do not quite know them completely. Hence, I prefer not to elaborate on them. But I am sure that you would find better explanations and examples on the net. These leadership styles are very popular.

Vinisha

Hi Sridhar,

Some of these links could provide useful info:

http://www.motivation-tools.com/work...hip_styles.htm

The following link gives good insight into leadership styles. It says that:

There are a number of different approaches, or 'styles' to leadership and management that are based on different assumptions and theories. The style that individuals use will be based on a combination of their beliefs, values, and preferences, as well as the organizational culture and norms which will encourage some styles and discourage others.

- Charismatic Leadership
- Participative Leadership
- Situational Leadership
- Transactional Leadership
- Transformational Leadership
- Transformational Leadership
- The Quiet Leader

One more article available on the net is attached. This article talks about:
Leadership experts agree that a key challenge facing leaders now and in the future is responsiveness to radical change. This article continues prior work on radical change with theory and research on leadership style. The result is a model of radical change describing the leadership styles best suited to the successful implementation of each stage in the change process. Using the Leadership Style Inventory, leaders can determine which stages of radical change they are equipped to handle. The article explores how individual and group leadership style limitations can be dealt with to ensure radical change success.

Hello,

I'm doing my thesis about "the effect of leadership style towards employees' performance." The leadership styles are:
1. Transactional leadership
2. Transformational leadership
3. Laissez-faire leadership

Could you help me to get the questionnaire about that?

Thank you
