In my current organization, retainers are also covered under the group mediclaim policy provided by the company. However, I believe that, as per Indian law, retainers or professionals working on professional fees should NOT be covered under the mediclaim policy.

I need help understanding what the law states regarding this issue. Can anyone please assist me in clarifying this matter?

Which legislation talks about it? There is no such law, and an organization covers employees, retainers, suppliers, and even customers if they desire so. It is the company's policy, affordability, and the insurance company's willingness to cover. That is all.

Coverage of Retainers in Group Health Insurance

Insurance companies have allowed coverage of retainers/consultants under the employee group health insurance policy in the past. However, in the spirit of a group policy, there should be some homogeneity in the type of people covered. Retainers are kind of dedicated/partly dedicated resources to the organization, similar to employees. Covering customers is something completely different from covering retainers. Insurance companies could raise objections in such cases due to the lack of homogeneity in the group.
