In a single line, to collect all the necessary information by means of a suitable survey, to create the mechanism and environment to dump this data into a well-designed database, and get the useful report out. The person must have expertise in setting the questionnaire, collection of data techniques, inserting this data into software applications, and reporting. The advanced part of reporting may include analytical reporting like Time Series Analysis. Furthermore, this whole system may be integrated with GIS to see all these results on the map. By the way, I am working on a Slum Information System which is a GIS-enabled Management Information System for a prestigious Central Government Scheme.
