My organization wants to make helmet-wearing compulsory for two-wheelers, and they have asked me to draft a policy. Can anyone tell me what the exact format of the policy should be?

Thank you

What points do you wish to cover in the proposed policy? I am not sure if such matters or issues are part of any company's policy. Why not discuss with the local traffic police – you could get the right inputs from them.

Please use the search button on this page at the top. Recently, there was a similar discussion on this topic. I am attaching the PPE Policy shared by Mr. Raghu for your ready reference. You may edit it to suit your application.

Policy on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

There can be a policy on PPEs. Many organizations do have it. Hope the attached policy will help.

With your anticipated support, I am attaching the same for the benefit of the members.

I am sure you should have such a policy, please share.

Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir

Dear TS, Thanks. For helmet on two wheelers please follow the legal notifications. There can not be any deviation. In case you want to have a policy it has to be stricter. Thanks & Regards, Sudhir

Did you get any help from the inputs given by our forum members? Do let us know your progress in making a policy.

Helmet Policy Implementation

You may consider implementing a policy that includes requiring the pillion driver to wear a crash helmet. In our plant, we are planning to provide shelves to individual employees for storing their crash helmets in the parking area. This will ensure that employees use helmets at all times. They can store and retrieve their safety helmets from these shelves.

@Sudhir Sir,

I apologize for the delay in providing my input. We do not have a specific and separate procedure for the use of crash helmets. It is only a requirement under our road safety standard. Thank you and please continue sharing.

Kind regards

Sorry for the late reply. Following are the points my company would like to cover in the policy:

Helmet Usage Policy for Parking Premises

All employees must use a helmet in order to use the parking premises of the company. Otherwise, the vehicle will be parked outside the company premises, and the company will not take any responsibility for vehicle security. Additionally, a fine of ₹100 will be charged.

Thank you.

Hi Sudhir and Dilip Kumar, I have already read all the thread posts on a similar topic, but my company specifically wants a helmet policy for two-wheeler riders, not industrial helmets. Kindly, please help me.

A nice way of handling the issue—except for the fine part. I am not sure if you will be 'entirely legal' since—to the extent I know—only the Traffic Police can levy any fines for such violations. Better check it out before implementing.

I do not see any problem. In fact, you are ensuring legal compliance by your employees. The only obligation you might have is that the fine amount collected must be used for welfare activities. Your company must be aware of this. In India, this works very well.

Hi everyone, thank you for your reply. Collected fines will be used towards labor welfare. We are imposing fines because helmets are provided by us to all employees. Now, the problem is that I don't know how to draft that policy. Please help me.

As suggested by members, go ahead and write your policy. I would suggest bringing a brain surgeon/neurosurgeon to make a presentation on head injuries. Sometimes, fear appeals do work.

Kindly circulate this simple video on the importance of helmets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATNrD...hannel&list=UL
