Hi,
One of my friends who has been working for close to 1.8 years with the company is asked to quit the company. However, she was not shown any performance data, client complaints, or even a Performance Improvement Plan. Only verbal discussions happened. She was told to put down her papers, serve a 2 months' notice, and find another opportunity.
I would like to know what rights she can possess and ask from the employer regarding her relieving. Can she ask for extra time until she finds another job and then put down her papers? Will she have to put down the papers right away as the management asked for? Please advise.

Dear Bhagyal,
The company has the right to send any employee by giving the proper notice period as per the appointment letter. It doesn't have to give any proof. Think, when an employee gives a resignation, they don't show any offer letter or any proof; they just resign, serve the notice period, and quit the company. Here it is vice versa. The company doesn't send any employee out only because of performance or complaint. Due to downsizing, manpower costs, or no future projects, the company may also ask the employee to quit. It's better to ask her to look for a job soon so that there will not be a break in service, which may not create a problem in her career perspective.
