I was previously working with a mattress company as an Assistant Manager; however, I resigned with immediate effect due to some personal issues. I have now joined a competitor at a higher position. However, my previous company had added a clause that I can't work with a competitor for 2 years and are now threatening to file a lawsuit against me. What shall I do? I never knew about the clause until today, and no one in the company knows about the same. Kindly advise.

I don't think it is a legally valid clause. Please discuss with a known lawyer and find out. Whatever it may be, if you are not communicated with and have not accepted it, then you are not a party to that.

Have you signed any bond or undertaking? If yes, what are the damage charges mentioned in the said clause if you were to join a competitor?

If the same is true, the company may file a civil suit against you to recover the said damages.
