It is the supervisor who needs to handle this. He needs to take them into confidence and impress upon the shop floor workers that quarrels or fights will be viewed seriously by the management.

In India, we have Industrial Employee Standing Orders to take care of such problems. Ultimately, the rules are only a deterrent, but human relations on the shop floor are the job of the supervisor, works manager, and welfare officer.

To control and develop people, leadership capabilities are crucial for supervisors. Supervisors or their immediate superiors must manage their teams effectively before escalating any issues to HR.

In this context, all staff must be familiar with the company policy and terms and conditions of employment. These should be clearly stated in writing, for example, in the handbook. The dos and don'ts, as well as the misconduct categories, must be highlighted. All staff must be informed, have the terms and conditions explained to them, understand, and agree to them.

If everyone understands the ground rules, it will help us reduce the number of disputes and misconduct cases.

Thanks.
