One of our colleagues has posted the following as a Grievance:
1. Library to be made available in our plant.
2. Recreation room with indoor games.

Can these be classified as grievances or as welfare? Requesting clarification.

Thanks & regards,
Srinivasan V

Any form of dissatisfaction among people is called a grievance. So, if your colleague has said that "it's bad that we don't have a library," then it is a grievance. But if he has said something like "Library should be there in our plant," it would amount to a "suggestion." The same goes for the recreation room as well.

It purely depends on how one puts forth the statement. However, both are "suggestions" and, personally speaking, really good ones. What you must ensure is that the employees should not utilize time from their actual work hours for these.

Cheers

Dear Srinivasan, these are the welfare measures/amenities that need to be addressed by the employer but weren't, maybe for some reason. When employees address these issues, it will be treated as a grievance (except wages). You may look into the issue, motivate employees, and address it very carefully.
