Hi, there are many employees in my company who have recently resigned without serving a notice period. We do not force any employee to stay if they have a genuine reason for leaving, but we do prefer them to honor the notice period. It is important to find a solution that benefits both employees and employers. Is there any legal recourse that can be pursued in such situations? Additionally, what should be done about company property, such as mobile phones and laptops, that were given to employees? I would appreciate any suggestions on how to handle these issues.

You have provided the details of the problem. How about giving some background details like:
1. About your company - which sector, size, whether it's a new or old company, etc.?
2. What efforts have been made so far to prevent/preempt this practice, which is different from just curbing it (which seems to be what you are asking)?
3. Since when has this trend been noticed?
Your answers will ensure that you receive the most suitable, accurate, and practical suggestions/advice from this forum. Dear Divya,
In this global competitive professional world, everybody wants to maximize their potential by getting a higher pay package, better position, and benefits. Today's employers also have lucrative ideas to attract experienced and talented individuals. Consequently, employers are offering better options such as higher positions, improved pay packages, and benefits to attract employees from other organizations. As a result, the rate of employees switching jobs is increasing day by day. Once a person is selected by another organization, the new recruit is urged to complete the joining procedures promptly; otherwise, the position will be offered to the next candidate on the list. Employees in existing organizations do not wish to wait or miss out on better offers and are reluctant to serve notice periods of one month, two months, or more.
Reasons Behind Employee Absconding
The main reasons behind employee absconding are:
- Fewer chances of promotion and salary revision
- Deduction of benefits and facilities
- Lower pay packages compared to the employee's abilities, qualifications, and experience
- Imposition of improper rules and regulations
- Inadequate job evaluation strategies
- Working far from their native or preferred location and finding new opportunities elsewhere
- Lower pay compared to other organizations offering the same position
- Excessive job stress, among others.
Strategies to Minimize Employee Absconding
The issue of employee absconding may be challenging to control but can be minimized through effective strategic thinking and planning:
1. Providing regular training
2. Organizing group collaboration programs with different departments
3. Timely salary revisions based on performance, etc.
