Considering a Role as Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales and Marketing

I want to know if a job profile of an Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales and Marketing is a good opportunity and what the future growth prospects are.

From the discussions that I have had, I have been informed that the job would involve overseeing all areas under the VP, conducting follow-ups, research, assisting the VP in decision-making, policy-making, business operations, etc. Currently, I am working as a Senior Product Executive with 8 years of experience and an MBA in marketing.

My designation and profile would change to Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales and Marketing. Please guide me on whether I should take the risk of accepting this new role.

Dear Uzma, looking into your current job profile, qualifications, and experience, in my opinion, the role of Executive Assistant to the VP of Sales and Marketing will be beneficial for you in the short term only. This position will enable you to have a broader perspective on several related issues such as all the areas under the VP, follow-ups, research, assisting the VP in decision-making, policy-making, business operations, etc., as you have rightly observed.

However, you must be careful not to get stuck in this role, as it offers no well-defined growth opportunities in the future, and much will depend on your past experience, track record, and other factors.

As they say in the stock market, "it is a good share to buy, but not to hold on to for a long time."

Warm regards,
Raj Kumar
