Hi Seniors, I am associated with a private school in Gulbarga, Karnataka. I heard that recently, in March 2011, there was an announcement that private school teachers are under the purview of ESI. I want to know if that is true. If yes, can anybody send me the notification or publication about the same? Also, how should I go about it and get correct guidance?

Dear Preetam,
In Karnataka, Educational and Medical Institutes are covered under ESI as per Sec. 1(5) of the Act effective from 16.03.2011. In the same notification, the coverage of shops & establishments has been updated, reducing the number of persons working for wages from 20 to 10. The concerned notification will be uploaded in my next post.
