Relocation Consideration
Currently, I am thinking of relocating within the same company but to a different place (at Raipur, Chhattisgarh) on a project basis for two years. I have been selected for this and would like to know the differences between deputation, transfer, project transfer, and lean. Can anyone suggest what the basic differences are between all these terminologies?
Cost to Company (CTC) Consideration
Secondly, which option will be more beneficial to me in terms of Cost To Company (CTC)? I am a permanent employee of this organization with a CTC of 3.6 lacs currently. As an outsider, they have budgeted 45,000 per month gross. I am going to complete 5 years in the permanent position on August 28th and am eligible to avail all service benefits, including gratuity.
I do not want to leave this job currently. Can anyone guide me on what to do and what not to do? I would appreciate the correct guidance.

Dear Sir, First of all, you need to check whether this is only a deputation and if you can return to the same location and position. While going, are you required to resign and get a full and final settlement? If so, you might not have service continuity further, and you may lose gratuity. You might also have to look for a different job when you complete the project. You need to be clear and get clarification from management in writing.
Your service continuity should not be cut. You should not resign from your present position. You might be only on deputation, which the organization has given to you. At any cost, your service should continue when you return.

Dear Sir, Thank you a lot for mentoring me on this unknown issue. The management is interested in sending me on a deputation basis, i.e., transfer to a location for more than three months, and I may be given a deputation cost. As has happened earlier, they are just providing a letter for deputation with all other terms and conditions remaining the same. There is no need to resign at all. Kindly suggest the risk factors in this case. And till now, I will definitely clear all the issues you raised. Thanks once again.

If the letter clearly states about a 3-month deputation, you don't have to really worry. There is no risk factor if your organization is providing everything in writing, but anonymously things could happen:
1. You might be extended to stay for a further month or two.
2. You may be requested to be posted permanently if you are found suitable for that position (the organization might be pushing for it).
3. You might also become attached and accustomed to the conditions, and willing to take a permanent position there.

Many companies send their employees on deputation for short-term assignments. If their services are required further, they will be transferred to sites where they are needed for the specified period. In both cases, the employee will receive either a deputation allowance or a site allowance. There is no need to worry as long as you are on their permanent payroll.

Dear Hemanth,
Our friends have clarified everything that you need, but there is one thing that we need clarification from your end, i.e., you started off stating that they are going to depute you for 2 years, and now you have ended up stating more than 3 months - which one is correct, and what do you mean by a 2-year bond? (The subject states the same).

Understanding Posting, Transfer, and Deputation
Thanks a lot for enriching me with lots of rules and regulations pertaining to administration and personnel. Yesterday, I received the posting letter for Raipur with some project allowance while the rest of the conditions will remain the same. They are not sending me on deputation but mentioned a POSTING at the Raipur project office for a period of two years. My question is, currently, I am working in Jaipur and have been posted to Raipur. Will I get reimbursement for transport? The manager is saying that I will not get the same as I have been posted there. What is the difference between transfer, deputation, and posting for an employee in terms of financial gain or loss?
Secondly, the manager has told me that deputation is for more than three months, so I am doing a posting. I am really confused. I would also appreciate it if you experts could shed light on transportation issues related to these three above-mentioned conditions.
Once again, thanks a lot for mentoring properly.
Best regards,
