Understanding Attrition: Resignations, Retirements, and Natural Reduction in Workforce - CiteHR

Hi all,

I am very confused about this term. Please help me with this. When I searched different search sites, I came across this definition:

"A gradual reduction in the workforce without firing personnel, as when workers resign or retire and are not replaced. A gradual, natural reduction in membership or personnel, as through retirement, resignation, or death."

I am not sure if retirement can be counted in this because retirement is something for which we can make some backup, so how could it be considered attrition?

Also, death is a natural calamity. Can it also be counted?

Please let me know your responses.

Thanks

Hi, Attrition in an organization simply refers to the number of resignations in a particular month or year. To simplify it further, it refers to the number of employees who leave an organization.
