Hi Ravi, the TDS will be calculated on the gross salary, but the employer will break it down as follows: basic/HRA/transport allowance/medical travel allowance. Rs. 800/- will be exempt from TDS. Additionally, to reduce the tax, you can produce the rent you paid to the landlord, which will also be exempt. A formula will apply for the same.

I want to know all the figures on my salary slip. My gross salary is 17k. I want to know what will be the figures for my Basic salary, HRA, Transport Allowance, Bonus if applicable, CCA, and the deductions like Professional tax. My PF is not getting deducted, and TDS is also not getting deducted. Also, I want to know how to calculate all these things when I have a gross of 17k because I don't know anything about the salary slip. Whenever I ask my Accounts department, I am not satisfied with the answers they provide. Kindly help me out. I would also like to mention that among the 17k, my incentives are 2000 per month.

I want to know my salary slip figures and the proper breakup of my salary. My salary is 17k, among which I have an incentive of Rs 2000 each month. Apart from that, I would like to know what my basic salary (in the slip it is 6700), HRA (in the slip it is 3000), Transport Allowance is 800, and incentive is 2000. My deduction is only professional tax, which is 150. My TDS is not getting deducted, and also the PF, so I want to know if all these figures are correct. How do I calculate these figures? Also, when I am getting an incentive in the slip, is TDS applicable to me or not? I also want to know the difference between TDS, income tax, and service tax.

Thanks

Difference Between Professional Tax and TDS

Professional tax is entirely different from Income Tax (TDS). PT is governed by the Sales Tax department. While I am not sure about the rate in MP, in Maharashtra, the rates are as follows:

- ₹0 to ₹5,000: NIL
- ₹5,001 to ₹10,000: ₹175 per month
- ₹10,001 and above: ₹200 per month, and in the month of February, ₹300

Income Tax (TDS) is managed by another department and is deducted according to the income tax slab after various exemptions and deductions.
