Hi, I resigned from the company and sent a resignation email (I have saved the emails to my personal email account). The company did not even bother to reply. I called them many times, but they never responded well. I left the company while on probation, so I only had to serve a notice period of 15 days. I tried to politely exit the company, but they never listened to my requests and did not relieve me. The employer is asking for money back.
Company Background
To start with, the company is a small Indian company falsely claiming to be an MNC. It is actually a body-shopping software consultancy with no infrastructure to support offshore development.
Personal Circumstances
I am unmarried (31 years old when I joined) and mentioned my position in terms of marriage and personal life in India.
Experience in the US
They sent me to the US without proper preparation, making me suffer by staying in a room away from home for 32 days. I worked for the company for 4 months in the US and informed my Reporting Manager that I was not interested in continuing.
While in the US, they deducted large amounts for taxes without providing a proper explanation. They promised high salaries, but the actual in-hand amount did not match up. The Reporting Manager assured me not to worry and asked me to inform the client in the US that I would be returning in 3 weeks.
Issues with Documentation
At one point, they tried to hold me back by keeping my documents like tax papers and passport. Fortunately, I managed to retrieve them. When I inquired about my relieving, they said I had to serve a 15-day notice period. I agreed and traveled almost 24 hours by train to the company. However, they changed the situation, stating I had to return to the US for a 2-month handover. Despite there being nothing left to hand over, I explained this to them. I offered to go back immediately as I had to join a new company, but they kept delaying the decision.
They finally called me the night before joining my new company at 10 pm and forced me to return to the US, threatening consequences.
Mental and Financial Impact
I was mentally tortured and harassed by the unprofessional behavior of the company. I lost two months' salary and went through mental torture due to their actions. Because of the uncertainty, I missed out on potential matches as I am still unmarried.
They continue to harass me, claiming false expenses and demanding nearly 2 lakhs from me. Recently, they sent me a postal mail via an advocate, which I managed not to receive.
Legal Concerns
I fear they might file a case against me. If they do, what are my chances of winning considering the losses I have incurred in terms of personal life, salary, security, and mental well-being due to the company's actions?
Initially, I was reluctant to take legal action, but I believe they are intent on ruining my life, which I cannot accept. I seek help so that unethical and unprofessional companies do not play with employees' lives. I also want my compensation and relieving letter from them.
Your assistance, based on your experience and wisdom, would be greatly appreciated.

Review Your Appointment Letter
Check your appointment letter to see if any clause is mentioned regarding the repayment of expenses.
Company Expense Coverage
When you visit the US, the company should cover the expenses, not you. You don't have to repay these expenses.
Legal Consultation
Meet with a lawyer and consult with them about your situation.
Establish Contacts for Legal Support
Try to establish contacts with the PF officer, Municipal Officer, and Income Tax Personnel. You can indirectly file a case through them. Later, you can file for compensation.

Thanks for your suggestion "job_connect_consultancy."
When they paid me a salary both in India and when I was in the US, they did not show any details about tax or PF, etc. When I asked them for proper payslips, they sent me a PDF showing monthly pay, but there was no information about which PAN number the tax was sent to the government, and nothing was shown regarding the PF account where the amount was deposited. They finally added some PF account number; however, upon inquiry, there was no such PF account found.
