Hi all,

I am working on a project about Labour Absenteeism, and I am having trouble finding suitable questions. Perhaps I am not understanding how to select them, but I really need some good questions to ask laborers who may not know how to read and write. I am focusing on the transport industry, specifically on drivers and garage workers who are frequently absent. I need to create a questionnaire in a simple manner to identify the reasons for their absenteeism. The questionnaire should consist of at least 20 questions. Please assist me in organizing the questions and advising on how to begin.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Kavitha,

It's good that you are doing a project on labor absenteeism. First, study the trend of employees taking leave or remaining absent and the reasons they give for being absent. Based on that, you can gather some insights. Another aspect to consider is that these drivers or garage workers have the option to work for a day or two where they can earn daily wages of a substantial amount. Therefore, you need to formulate questions that can provide more information.

Hi Pavitra,

Thank you for replying to my question. Actually, I have studied the trend. They remain absent by taking leave, and most of the reasons are for their personal work rather than falling sick. To explain it in detail, I can say 75% of laborers take leave for their personal work, 15% of laborers take leave as they are unwell, and 10% for marriage functions or going out of town. I found very few cases of a laborer staying absent when they do not have any leave to apply. My confusion is whether leave should be considered as absent or, apart from leave, those who remain absent should be considered.
