Hey,
I am starting this thread because the subject of "Life after Death" has always been a mystery. Although there are many views and thoughts on the subject, there is no conclusion to the question "Are Ghosts Real".
Please use this thread to share any personal experiences or genuine hearsays you may have on this subject. It's a dark subject, but I find it very interesting!
Please pour in your thoughts and experiences, please! Do ghosts really exist?

Sure, we can discuss. There may be some people who may not like it, so I thought I will discuss separately.
Hey, this is a very interesting topic. This thread will be prolonged more and more if the right person joins us here. Let us wait if someone sheds light on this topic!

Jyoti,
Very interesting topic but very controversial and arguable too.
It has always been a topic of high interest for me. Even one of my friends and I used to go to places in dark nights which were known to be notorious for this, but we never experienced such a thing. As far as belief is concerned, I am not sure about this, and not convinced with the logic that "If it is true that God exists then even Ghosts exist..."
But at the same time, I met a lot of people who experienced such things... but everybody had their own interpretation...
A ghost is potentially the result of a person who has passed away, and their cognitive and subconscious mind has been shared with others throughout their lives. This process is involved with something called quantum entanglement. We all feel connected to other people; this is why. When people pass, certain physical references trigger the prominence of that deceased person's thoughts in the living. That is why ghosts cannot be photographed reliably; they exist within our minds. They may not exist as separate entities, but they may be just as real as we ourselves are.
There is absolutely no evidence that ghosts exist. Half the people who post in this topic seem to think they do exist, so please post some evidence here. I would be really interested in what it is.... :)
Nithya, I think you have good material on this subject. Please don't hesitate to share as suggested by Hima. :) :) :)

Well said, Manoj, Hima, and Nithya. Thank you all.
I believe ghosts are real; otherwise, why would I be scared to be alone at home during the night? We have heard so many stories and gossips, and sometimes people claim they have seen ghosts. Everyone seems to be scared of ghosts, whether or not they believe in them.

Thank you, Manoj.
People have different perceptions. Some people have seen ghosts. Definitely, we cannot post any proof here. I am scared to see the proof, but I like to discuss. Only theory I can give inputs. No risk-taking.
Manoj, you must be very brave in going to places at night!!

Hi all,
Though I have a job, I am also conducting research on various subjects, including the subtle body (known as "sukshma-sareer," which some refer to as a ghost). God is distinct from a ghost, and therefore we cannot compare God to a ghost, as God does not even possess a subtle body. I hope to clarify any doubts you may have about ghosts. Please visit my next post, which will likely be tomorrow since it is already 5:30 PM.

Dear Friends,
First of all, I am sorry for being late in replying today...:(:(
I hope you all have heard of this saying: "To the believer no proof is required, to the skeptic, no proof is sufficient."
There is no repeatable or scientifically controllable way to collect evidence of ghosts (at least not with the technology we have now). There are certainly people who have had solid evidence of things happening that they believe are due to ghosts, and the lack of scientific "proof" does not mean these people are crazy; it only means that we cannot "turn ghosts on or off," call them when we want to prove their existence, or create conditions where we can measure the presence or absence of a ghost.
There are certainly many things that science cannot explain, and people who have heard or seen something they believe was a ghost are convinced that it is the best explanation. All of us should accept that there are certain factors that are beyond science.
Just because you don't see it doesn't mean there is nothing there. Do we have HARD evidence that GOD exists? Yet, millions of people on this planet believe yes, even though they haven't seen them with their own eyes, and some of these are the die-hard skeptics themselves.
Quantum physics is explaining a lot of behavior that we didn't understand previously. We are all energy that is vibrating. Ghosts are remnants of energy.

Yes, Malini, you are right. When a person who has really seen a ghost will know that terror. I have some friends who have seen it. God, we should see their face when they explain it.

Malini, you are not late; you entered at the right time. Well, logically you are appearing good and to the point. But logics are good to debate, not to prove. We believe in God because we have faith in it, and vice versa. The same rule applies here as well.
Just think, where do all unseen things live? I mean, where do our feelings, our experiences, our memories, and all such things exist? Yes, in our mind only. Similarly, these things are also very much related to our own mind rather than the real world. I've seen all those things, Pooja, and all those, but could never be sure about that. But still, I find that this belief is so strong and popular, just want to give it a try. 🙂

Scientists say that ghosts contain no matter, no energy, and therefore, according to the laws of science, do not exist except in people's minds.
Most scientists work on facts and not theory. If they can't prove it, then it doesn't exist. However, this does not mean they are always right, and there is much to learn in this world or perhaps in the world of the dead that none of us may ever know.
A ghost is potentially the result of a person who has passed away, and their cognitive and subconscious mind has been shared with others throughout their lives. One more popular myth or belief whatever is... Ghost hunting is dangerous -- the ghosts might follow you home!
and just have a look at the clarification too....
99.9% of ghosts are completely harmless. Typically speaking, ghosts are haunting a location, not a person, and certainly not YOU specifically. They are also usually quite territorial, either bound to a certain location because they choose to remain at a place that had special significance to them when they were alive or because their energy is trapped in the place where the tragedy that caused their passing occurred. If an object is haunted, however, then yes, the spirit attached to the item will go wherever it goes. But entering a cemetery, snapping a few pictures and then leaving is harmless. You are merely observing, and the ghosts know that. However, it doesn't hurt to say a prayer of safety as you are getting ready to leave, or even ask the spirits directly that they remain where they are and do not follow you home. :) :)
Anyways, I think it doesn't matter much if ghosts exist or not... "I heard somewhere in a joke... where two ghosts were talking... Don't believe in men... they don't exist... ha.. ha.. ha.."
Anyways, it would be interesting reading more on this subject.......

Yes, they are there. They live in the "spirit world" (but so do we, it's just that most people on the earth plane, which is a small part of the "spirit world" don't notice that it's there). Some of them are capable of harming us, but this is a complicated issue that is far beyond my knowledge and abilities to understand or explain. I just know that it is a VERY minuscule possibility, and most people have nothing to worry about. The ones that harm do it because that's what they do. I really don't understand why, but you can look at it this way: there is no light without shadow, no good without evil, no day without night. Something can only exist in contrast with its opposite, otherwise we'd have no knowledge of it, nothing to define it by. It's not "good" or "bad", just the way things are.

I came across this information on a website. An African prophet is claiming to have predicted Michael Jackson's death months ago. Also, an image believed to be Jesus has appeared on a church door in Alabama. While I typically view such images as pareidolia, I must admit this one is quite elaborate.

Could you please check this and confirm if it is true? Unfortunately, I don't have access to it. I personally don't think it's true. On that website, they claim to be communicating with Michael Jackson's ghost and more.
Thank you!

Patna, February 3: Railway Minister Laloo Prasad on Friday said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should perform puja before moving into his official residence at One, Anne Marg to exorcise the 'ghosts' he (Laloo) was leaving behind.
The RJD president, who along with his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, vacated the house after two months of dithering, said, "We have left behind many ghosts tied to the Neem tree at One, Anne Marg."
"Nitishji should perform a puja there to exorcise the ghosts if he wants to live in peace," said Laloo jocularly during a housewarming party at his new residence at 10, Circular Road. Imli is a tamarind tree. It is 100% confirmed that a ghost is there. I have seen people who are affected by it.
Pupal tree is also true, but the pupal tree is found in temples. South and North Indian women pray to that tree for family purposes. It is believed that Lakshmi exists in that tree every Saturday. It is also believed that if any couple does not have kids for many years, if the wife prays to the pupal tree, a baby is born.

All the ghosts cannot be construed as an object of fear, but our ignorance of them makes us fearful. A ghost is an impure soul (evil spirit) that exists for a duration between leaving one body and entering a new body (fetus). During this period, it holds a subtle body. Every soul on Earth passes through this process, but some souls with attachments to a person, material, or unfulfilled wishes may not desire to leave the old body even after death. According to scriptures, attachment is one of the top five vices, and souls with such vices are known as evil souls/spirits. These souls retain the subtle form of the old body and wander with the person or material they are attached to. Sometimes, they may appear in the form of a transparent body known as a ghost.
For example, if a person purchases an expensive costume but dies before wearing it in an accident, and the body is cremated, if the parents donate the costume to a beggar who then sells it to someone else; the buyer takes it to another country, the soul of the original purchaser, attached to the costume, goes to the new country with it. The soul may not harm the new owner but simply remains with the costume until it is damaged. The soul may find relief from being a ghost and take a new body if its attachment to the item ends.
(The next post will discuss the subtle body.)

What is the subtle body?
It is a known fact that the soul - the conscious entity (chaitanyam) lives in and operates the body made of five elements. These five elements are earth (minerals), water, air (oxygen & vitamins), fire, and space. Logically, this implies that the soul is not made of these five elements. It also implies that since the entire galaxy Milky Way is made of five elements, the soul must come from a place beyond the galaxy called the supreme abode.
When a person dies and the body is cremated, earth, water, and air merge with the respective items of our environment. Fire has no existence of its own but is a process of chemical action and reaction of the above three. The remaining fifth element is space, i.e., the space occupied by the body. This is the subtle form (sukshma roop) of our body. All the angels, deities in trance vision (sakshyatkar), ghosts, etc., have this form of body. Whereas angels and deities are pure souls, ghosts are impure souls.
Please note that God is different from angels/deities.

Hmm, hey, do you believe that ghosts exist in electronic products? I posted this story but received no response, so I am posting it again. Please provide input.
This is not my experience; it is just a story I received in the mail.
Interesting!
I have a baby monitor story too, though I think I may have already told it here. It's definitely not scary, though (well, not in my opinion). I do wonder if the monitor in either story picked up a radio signal from somewhere else. It seems more likely in my case than in this story, but it's not entirely impossible.
At any rate, we lived in Illinois at the time, and my youngest son was either 2 or 3 years old at the time. He is mildly physically handicapped and didn't learn to walk until he was 3. At the time, he still slept in his crib, which had very high curved sides, and he could not get out of it at all.
I had a friend who had recently died, and since we were both pagan, I decided to do a "goodbye ritual" for her on Samhain. I'd never had any trouble with the monitor before that, nor after; we are still using it (my son is 8 now but is mentally challenged as well, so I keep the monitor in his room in case he needs me during the night). We had lived in the house for about a year before this happened and continued to live there for close to 6 months afterward. I often saw "small shadows" in the house, but I see those in every place I live, so I'm used to them. Nothing else "odd" happened there that I recall.
Not having any place in the house that was truly private, I did the goodbye ritual in my son's room after he fell asleep. All it consisted of was lighting a special candle that I chose for her and softly talking about how she had touched my life, and I was sorry to see her go, may she be at peace—very nice and completely non-threatening, of course. There was nothing else to it, so it's not like I "called something up."
All was quiet, and we went to bed shortly after the boys did. Shortly after I turned on the monitor speaker in our room, I heard the most beautiful Native American music coming from it, which started soft and got louder even though I was not touching the volume on the speaker. Very pretty music, nothing scary at all, though it was startling. However, my son was a very light sleeper at the time, and I was afraid the music would wake him up. I thought at first he must have gotten out of his crib and turned on the CD player in the room, or that his brother had gotten in there and turned it on. Usually when my younger son would wake up, he would start crying, so I was amazed that the loud music hadn't awakened him. I ran down the hall to turn the music off because it kept getting louder, opened his door quickly, and there was just silence in his room—yet I could still hear the music on the speaker when I went back into our room. I went back to check the CD player again, took it out of the room...it had a classical lullaby CD in it, and the radio was not on either.
My friend who had died was a native Inuit of Alaska and was quite fond of Native American flute music. I wondered if she was thanking me for remembering her or saying goodbye in her own way. The music continued for some time that night, but we never heard it again. Of course, it could have been that the monitor speaker just picked up a satellite radio station that happened to play New Age music, too—and it just happened to be a Native American flute piece that we caught.

Hey Guys,
I have something to share with you all. There is a book which clearly says that the reincarnation of souls happens. In every birth of yours, you have some task to deliver in return for which you reach one level up in your learnings. Till the time a soul doesn't complete all that is required for it to learn, it wanders in the loops of birth.
In case a person dies without completing the task, they take birth again! Some souls accept to wander like that and are never able to complete the loop of birth, due to which they haunt.

There was an incident at my home...
We all live in a joint family. One day, a Pandit came to our house. When my brother refused to give him something, he started abusing and talking about ghosts. He said that if we didn't listen to him, they would haunt us!
Upon hearing this, my brothers got angry and made a deal with him. They challenged him to go to a graveyard at midnight, sit on a grave, eat food, and then come back. Surprisingly, he accepted the challenge...
My brothers waited outside the graveyard while the Pandit went in. He sat on a grave, ate his food, and meanwhile, my brothers ran away, leaving him alone. In the morning, my brother returned with news that the Pandit had suffered a mild heart attack and claimed to have seen a ghost there...
No one knows if he was telling the truth, but one thing was certain - he never showed his face to us again!

Please read this story... It's true.
I have a very small house in a really peaceful neighborhood. I do not think my house is very old, but that has not stopped me from speculating that there is something in this house.
One night, I was really tired so I thought that I would watch TV and then go to bed soon after. I was sitting when I suddenly heard a loud sound right in front of me, like something hit something else. I looked up and my lamp was moving... Like shaking! It looked like somebody or something had hit it, but there was nobody in my house and all the windows were closed!
I want to find reasons that would justify what I saw, but I cannot find any reason.
This is also not the only time that I have encountered strange things happening in my house.
I sleep really early, like around 9:30. It was a Monday, and I went to bed around that time. I was about to close my eyes when I suddenly felt dizzy and then I started shaking. I opened my eyes so wide that I thought my eyeballs were going to shoot out of my eye sockets. I could not decide whether it was me shaking or the bed. I suddenly sprang out of my bed and turned on the lights. Yet again, there was nobody there. I went to sleep on the couch because I was sweating so much.
When I think about it, it felt like somebody had put their hands on the ends of my bed and shaking the bed. I do not know what it was, or maybe it was me shaking.

I have something to share... a true incident, the real fear which I experienced while I was in Std. X.
I don't know exactly what it was, but one thing I am sure of is that I was in my full conscious state of mind. I was sleeping in my room that day beside my window. We (my sister and I) used to have two separate beds in our room. I came to bed a little early that day, around 11:30 p.m, as we used to sleep very late at night. My sister was in another room with my dad. When I came to sleep, I took one of my textbooks and started shuffling the pages.
Suddenly, I felt something around my window. I glanced and found nothing. Then I closed the book, switched off the light, and lay on my bed with my eyes open.
Again, this time, I felt a very strange smell around my window. I thought it might be because of some creature out there, but I wanted to investigate. I looked through the window (through the net after the window).
I literally saw a damn strange creature which had a very long and broad human-like face, but I couldn't see the front face. It was totally white, highlighted in the environment, with very short legs and long ears. It was climbing our pendula tree very fast. I can remember well that as I was watching him, I felt a very strange pressure on my neck, like I was suffocating from watching him. I continued watching him until he climbed to the top of the tree, waiting for him to return so that I could see him properly, but he disappeared dramatically. :-(
Afterward, I can't tell you how I felt. I was so scared and screamed loudly. Everybody came to see me, and I had a fever for a complete two days afterward.
I believe in God. I do have faith. But what was that? That is still imprinted in my mind till now.
What could that be? He was surely not human... I don't know.

Mai kudh dargaye thi re.........hmmm one more true story...
A couple of audible experiences to report. Sunday, the 18th, I was in my office, on my computer. Justin and my nephew Adam were in the living room playing a video game. Off and on, I could hear Justin and Adam conversing back and forth….but then out of no where (when it was quiet and no one in the house was talking) I heard a voice say (from right outside my office door) "Ma…Mama." The tone was very calm, yet it sounded almost like it was drained or almost like it was hesitant to call out…like it was afraid of disturbing me or who ever they were calling out to or who ever they thought I was when they called out. As soon as I heard the voice, I knew immediately…this was not a voice I recognized…the voice was of a very young child. I didn't get a response back, so I got up, walked down the hall to where Corey's room was…he wasn't in there….I went to the living room and there was Corey, Adam and Justin. I asked them "Did one of you just call me?" They all shook their heads "no".
[FONT='Times New Roman', Times, serif]Then, Monday the 19th, my nephew Adam also had an unexplained, audible experience. He said he was standing in Corey's bedroom doorway, talking with Corey. He said he heard what sounded like me, behind him, call Corey's name. He said he thought I was behind him, trying to get in to talk to Corey (because the voice was right near his ear), so he scooted to the side to let me by, but when he turned around…no one was there. He said he asked Corey "Did you just hear your mom call you?" but Corey hadn't….so he went to the dining room where I was sitting at the dining room table talking with a family friend to ask me if I had called Corey, but it wasn't me.

One more incident
It was about a time when I used to study and stay in a hostel! In one of the holidays, we all decided that we would go to our hometown by train. There were 9 people in total.
One of the guys among us was staring at the others continuously. (Ram and Ashok - names changed deliberately). At first, we thought this was some kind of prank or joke he was playing.
Soon Ashok became uncomfortable with this. He stood up and went towards the door of the compartment, but Ram's eyes didn't stop following him. After some time, we all started feeling a little uncomfortable about the whole scenario. Among us, we all asked Ram to stop, but it seemed like he was not listening to us. Soon, one of our group members scolded him. As soon as Ram spoke, his voice was totally transformed - it was a mix of two people, very scary. Then we all disembarked at the nearest station, including Ram.
We all came out of the station and went to a place which was the playground of some colony. My friends started interrogating him about who he was and what he wanted. After a few hours of struggle, during which they also hit him, to know who he was, he replied that he was the dead ex-boyfriend of the girl who is in love with Ashok, and he is here to kill him. Suddenly, all my friends started hitting Ram, and we realized that he had started crying.
Soon we all requested him to leave, and he said he would leave but would never harm Ashok. Ashok asked him how he would go. He said there are many scooters without passengers on their back seat, and he will sit on any of them. Suddenly, Ram became unconscious. We all took him to the doctor, and as soon as we reached our hometown, we all went for a big Mahapuja against that evil spirit.

An old man was out for a walk when a storm came, and he started looking for a place for shelter. Soon, he found an old house. He ran up the porch and knocked, but nobody answered. By now, the rain was pouring down, thunder was booming, and lightning was flashing. So he tried the door. It was unlocked, so he went inside. He made a fire with a pile of wooden boxes he broke up. It was so cozy that he fell asleep.
When he woke up, he saw a black cat near the fireplace. "That's a nice cat," he thought, and fell asleep again. When he woke up again, there was a second cat in the room, but this one was as big as a wolf. It looked at him and asked, "Shall we do it now?" "No," said the other cat. "Let's wait till Martin comes." "I must be dreaming," thought the man, and fell asleep again.
He woke up once more and saw another cat in the room, this one as big as a tiger. It looked the old man over and asked, "Shall we do it now?" "No," said the others. "Let's wait till Martin comes." The old man got up, jumped out of the window, and started running. "When Martin comes, you tell him I couldn't wait," he called.

Hey,
I will first share a short incident that happened one year ago. My aunt (my mom's younger sister) stayed in a rented house in Tirupathi. Suddenly, my aunt was sick. Our family astrologer came to our home and did dhyanam. He found that there was a Ghost of (Chakka), which is very powerful. He interacted with that Ghost. The Ghost mentioned that it had been in the house for many years and doesn't let any family stay for more than 6 months, except for our family because it liked my aunt's 2-year-old son. The Ghost also said that no young couple should stay in the house. Our astrologer performed a puja and tied a knot (Dhigbhandhan) near the entrance and behind the home. He assured that the Ghost would not enter the house but roam around the compound.
I happened to go to Thirupati because my granny was ill and hospitalized. I stayed in the hospital at night and came home during the day.
While having lunch and feeding my aunt's son, Dhiru, he seemed to interact with someone behind the house. When I checked, no one was there, which terrified me. Dhiru was asking me to fill food for the air (as he could see the Ghost). He even approached the Ghost, but our dog pulled him back. That afternoon was terrifying for me and my cousin sister.
The next evening, Dhiru woke up from sleep and refused to come to the hall. When we asked what happened, he called out to the Ghost, crying. He didn't let us sit in the hall, and our dog kept pulling us towards the room. We performed an aarti at the Dhigbhandhan, after which everything seemed okay.
Those were a few experiences. I returned to Chennai after that.

Dear Friends,
Ghosts are created by people who wanted to cheat others for their money. In India, especially by our MUM so that we will be at home in time & also to keep us stay away from strangers & experimenting from strange things... Actually, I was thinking in this way till the summer of 2006. Coz it was at that time when I really happened to witness a real thing which I have no words to explain. Actually, my friend was the victim - We are nearly 6 people (college friends) stayed late night @ College hostel even though we are all dayscholars... I think you guys can understand the reason behind our late-night stay... (yes, it was for a beer party)... Actually, it should be around 3:30 & we were all in a deep sleep & suddenly heard one of our friend screaming as much as he could... we found him shivering with his eyeballs popping out of his eyelid... We are also able to find some nail marks around his neck... & after a few minutes he was back to his form & what he said completely made us vacate the room at the very next minute... He said that some big shadow was sitting on his chest for more than 2 minutes & he was trying to scream nearly for 2 mins but he couldn't... at last somehow he screamed & woke up all of us...
I know you won't believe this... even I, if any one of you happened to write this... but now I couldn't... because that night made me believe those things...
Forgot to say one thing... I'm not sure whether it was a Ghost or our Hostel Warden who was sitting on his chest... but after that incident... he was facing the same problem again & again... Now he is in Texas, US...
Cheers,
Ed

Life after Death
Please note, after death, there is nothing. Why do you feel that there is any other type of life? It is only in stories and in letters like yours. Ghosts are the name given by you or anybody, but the fact is a fact. Do ghosts really exist? My answer is - NO.

Yes, I know. What we can do is have two teams: one team who trust ghosts and the other team who do not trust ghosts. So, we know the majority will be the team who trust in it, and we must ensure there is no argument in it. Name the teams by taking help from our friends here... What do you say? Or we can just have an open discussion the way it is going on now.

As Sally walked into the hotel room and looked around, she saw that a strange TV on the wall was on. She looked at the TV and noticed a figure with red eyes, red circle squiggles on its cheeks, and a stux suit on the screen. She then said to the strange figure, "Hello."
"Greetings," said the figure. "Would you like to play a game?"
"A game?" asked Sally.
"Yes, a game to see if you can survive."
"Uh, sure," said Sally again.
"Let the games begin," announced the figure. "The first test is to see if you can escape."
Then Sally felt a cold chill in her ankle and looked down to notice water flooding everywhere in the hotel room. "What's going on?" Sally asked.
"See if you can solve the puzzle of the key locks and make it out of the room before you drown," the figure replied.
Sally ran straight to the room, started looking for the keys, and noticed they were hanging on a pole in the right-hand corner of the room. She then ran up to the pole and saw the water was already halfway close to the ceiling. Sally took a deep breath, dove into the water, tried every key combination she could think of, and finally got all the keys into the holes. By the time she was able to open the door, water flooded all around the hallway, and she passed out.
Twenty-five minutes later, she found herself in the hotel hospital and heard the phone ring. She picked it up and answered, "Hello."
"Did you enjoy the game?" a voice said over the other line.

An Article that proves that Ghosts are real..............I'm sorry it's a bit lengthy, but it's informative...
When scientists debunk ghosts, their first statement is usually, "there is no scientific proof of the existence of ghosts." This is wrong. There is scientific proof. Science even has theories that explain something must be happening beyond what we know and what we can see.
Albert Einstein (1879-1955), Time Magazine's Man of the Century and one of the greatest minds the world has known, taught us that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be changed from one form of energy into another form of energy. This means that no matter what is done, energy cannot be destroyed.
Human beings have both electrical and chemical energy in our bodies. We are organically designed to carry our electrically charged brain and nervous systems. When we die, our chemical bodies begin to break down and decompose. The organic side returns to where it came from - energy changing into a different form of energy as Einstein's law says. So what happens to the electrical energy that flows through our brain? It can't simply disappear or fade away out of existence. That would break the laws of science. That energy has to still be somewhere, only now it has changed into a different form of energy. What happens to the energy is really determined by personal faith. No one knows exactly what waits beyond this life. What we do know, thanks to science, is that the electrical pulse energy in each human being will always exist because as a rule it "cannot be destroyed."
Another great scientist who believed in life after death was Thomas Edison (1847-1931). Edison was a genius ahead of his time. He invented the light bulb, phonograph, typewriter, electric motor, stock ticker, and 1,093 other patented inventions. One of the inventions that he worked on at the end of his career was a secret project, a machine that would let the living see and communicate with the souls of the dead.
Edison believed that the soul was made up of what he referred to as "life units." These microscopic particles or life units could rearrange into any form. They retained full memory, personality, and were indestructible. Edison's machine would detect these life units in the environment and allow living individuals to communicate with the dead. He put many years of hard work into his new creation, but sadly, he died before it was finished. Some called Edison crazy. Others thought that he was onto something bigger than the idea of the light bulb. They believed that if he would have had a little more time, we might all today be living in a very different world.
It's been found that in almost every ghost haunting and poltergeist, there are certain electrical elements at work. Using EMF detectors, ghost hunters can monitor these electrical forces. These devices can examine and record even the smallest fluctuation in the surrounding electromagnetic field. Everything gives off some kind of electromagnetic field, even our own bodies. Electrical appliances, like television sets and computers, give off higher distortions than a lamp or a toaster would. When ghosts are present, there are higher levels of electromagnetic distortions. Many times the distortions are so high that they interfere with the working abilities of computer systems and audio/video equipment. High levels of static electricity are also detectable.
Recording temperature changes is another scientific way of detecting the presence of ghosts. Fluctuations of more than 10 degrees have been recorded in small areas of rooms with constant temperatures. It's a scientific fact that there has to be some form of energy present to alter the temperature. Temperature does not change unless "something" is affecting it one way or the other. In many ghost sightings, witnesses report feeling a cold spot. This could be caused by the fact that light does not seem to reflect correctly off most ghosts, which also gives them a dark form. The light seems to be absorbed into the ghost. The theory is that ghosts absorb both light and heat energy, causing the general area around that ghost to be several degrees cooler. There are also hot spots recorded, which could be just the reverse effect occurring. Instead of soaking up the light and heat, the ghost is reflecting it back, causing the area to be warmer.
These unexplainable electromagnetic fluctuations and temperature changes are scientific evidence that something is happening. Ghosts are real.

Hi,
Another Story!! This is not my experience. I got an email.
His Heart Was Still In Ireland
In July 1997, I received a telephone call from a cheerful lady who was answering my newspaper ad for autographs and old documents. This is my actual means of making a living. I have been a collector and dealer of autographs for over 25 years. She stated she lived in Thurmont, Maryland and that she had a steamer trunk full of artifacts and documents, mostly from the late 1800s. We made an appointment for me to come to her home the following day.
It was late afternoon when I arrived, and the first thing I noticed was the house, a beautiful Victorian-style house painted deep brown with many high hedges and thick pines. A stereotypical "haunted house" we used to see in the old horror movies. I parked the car in the front and walked up the steep pavement and porch steps, each footstep on the porch creaked and moaned. I knocked on the large wooden door, and almost immediately the door opened, and a pleasant woman reached out her hand for mine and introduced herself. "Just call me Mary, everybody else does," she said. I replied, "OK, Mary. Thank you for inviting me to your wonderful home." That was no overstatement; this place was like a step into the past... gasoliers, pedestal sinks, sconces, bronzes, etc.
She motioned to the large sitting room where a steamer chest was sitting by a beautiful daybed. She explained that her late father had collected the contents and simply placed everything in the steamer trunk. He had an interest in documents that described historic events. As well, he had collected several older autographs. The trunk was used by him when he immigrated from Ireland in 1918.
I opened the lid and was hit in the face by the typical musty aroma of old paper. I started to sift through the items and quickly read over the papers to see exactly what was before me. Many of the items were personal letters written in Gaelic. Included were soldiers' correspondence from France, no doubt during the First World War. Then I came across a 7x9-inch photo of King George V of Great Britain that was signed by the monarch. As I touched the piece, I knew there was a history behind it.
I sat motionless for a minute or so, long enough to be noticed by Mary. She inquired if anything was wrong? I told her that I got a sense of hatred and pain when I touched this photograph. She then noticed what I was holding and sighed... then tried to hold back tears. I explained to her that I was able to sense residual feelings and events and that I had performed paranormal investigations for many years. She smiled and told me why she was displaying tearful emotions.
Mary explained that her father was a member of the Irish resistance in Dublin and that he had always blamed King George V for the death of his brother during the 1916 "Easter Rising". Her father was also captured by the British troops but managed to escape and make his way to the United States. He always wanted to go back to Ireland to reunite with family but was afraid that he would still be considered a fugitive. He eventually got married and raised a family. He worked as a gunsmith and bricklayer. Mary said he would pace in his study daily wondering how his friends and family in Ireland were getting along. In 1935, he had gathered enough money together to visit Ireland after he had received a visa. Then tragedy struck when her father suffered a severe stroke. The money he saved for his trip was used for his cremation and funeral.
Mary then stood up and said, "please, follow me." We walked down the hallway into a study and library. "This is where my father resides," Mary stated. "I hear his footsteps and moans every night." I was speechless. I asked her if she would mind if I tried to communicate with her father. She said, "No, that's not necessary. He wouldn't understand... besides, he talks to me every evening."
I did purchase the items and the steamer trunk. The signed photograph of King George V of Great Britain remains in my collection and continues to remind me of the sad Irish immigrant who simply wanted to see home one more time.
NOTE: This incident actually took place as described. Mary's recall of history may not have been totally correct, but I felt that the encounter should be written as stated in her words. I continued to purchase pieces from Mary for several years after our original meeting. Sadly, Mary passed away in 2002 while on holiday... in Ireland. I was told her father's ashes were sent to Ireland to be mixed with Mary's ashes and scattered at an undisclosed location... Lon

A true story it seems..............
The incident that I am about to relate to you happened before I was born. My grandmother told it to me, and I believe her story, or else I would not be retelling it now. It happened to her mother many years ago.
Our family was very poor, and they lived in a cabin that was deep in the woods. My grandmother's mother was watching over Grandma and her brother. Both of them were young, not much over six years old. Nights get pitch black in the Michigan woods, and all they had for light were a few candles. The nearest cabin was at least a mile away, so the whole family had become used to solitude.
My great-grandmother was idly knitting, keeping an eye on the children, when a strange feeling came over her. She felt almost as though she were being watched. Instinctively, she looked towards the door of the small cabin. There, on the window beside the door, appeared a bloody handprint before her very eyes. I wish you could hear the way she told me the next part, for the thought of it still sends shivers down my spine. A voice, soft but terribly clear, came out of nothing and kept saying "he murdered me, he murdered me."
The next day, when Great Grandpa came home, they pulled up the floorboards of the front porch and dug up the soft dirt floor in the area beneath the window where the handprint had appeared. Buried in a shallow grave was the skeleton of a man. His skull was caved in, and the general assumption was that a former owner of the cabin had murdered a peddler for his money. My Great Grandparents moved out the next day, and after that, no member of my family would stay in the cabin again, even though they had put his bones to rest in a proper cemetery.
On my grandmother's good name, not a word of this is a lie.

Hi there,
I believe this. I have heard such incidents. Just think of your grandma's reaction when she saw the handprint and heard the voice. God, she must be brave, yaar.
As for me, in my kitchen, vessels will fall in the nights after I complete all my kitchen chores. I will run close to my hubby and hold him, then he will say it is a rat. It has come to the kitchen because you completed your work and you won't enter there, so it is searching for its food there. This has happened more than 3 times. This silly thing scares me to the core. Hats off to your grandma.
Thank you.

Hi Nithya,
Here is the corrected version of your input:
Our current science and technology have not reached up to Adhyatma (Spiritual Evolution). It couldn't explain everything that exists in this world, whether seen or unseen. There is a scientist (GOD) who created everything, including us. Whatever we know could be incorrect because everything that is the basis of our science is an assumption. Considering these assumptions, we never could explain these mysteries. We don't have words or expressions even to term these mysteries, so we say them "GHOSTS" ... yeah, I agree that they exist ... in fact, they coexist with us ... but it's quite possible that we are also strangers to them ... we are also an unsolved mystery to them. In our Vedas, Puranas, all spiritual books, we would find the stories about them ... whether you read Ramayana, you would find "TAADIKA" ... in Mahabharata, "HIDIMBA" ... many more such cases ... we know that everything written in these holy books is true, maybe more exaggerated, but the truth is there ... so yeah ... I agree they exist.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Hey guys
Posting after a long time…………
One more incident from my hostel life…. Our campus was on the outskirts of the town and the place where basket ball court was we heard that it was a grave yard…adjacent to that court was our hostel.. The rooms were single and double occupancy … In one of the rooms my class mate use to live she had a regular problem of migraine… one night her neighbor came to our room almost banging our door and asked us to come and see her… she was lying on her floor almost unconscious I reached to her and gave her a lilt water.. She holds my hand very tightly and said slowly leave me u are hurting me… I didn't understand at that point of time…. When I made her sit on bed what I saw was there were big long marks of nails on her back... She said it is happening to her once in a month and this time it was too painful
We suggested her to move back to her home when she came back she told that this was all because of a spirit was following her and she saw that spirit about two months ago when she was at her home and she didn't mentioned that at her home …. Resulting to which that spirit thought she is afraid of her and started harassing her…
She got rid of her by means of some Puja done by some Tantrik at her house…
What all I can say is that it is sometimes really painful for a person to go through from all these things…………..

Hi all,
Long time no stories? What happened to all of you?
One question to all of you... why does a spirit possess a person or follow a person?
I had my colleague (a Malayali girl). She was followed by a Gandharvan. I hope you all know what a Gandharvan is. He liked her and was behind her. Her boyfriend was having frequent accidents because of Gandharvan. He did not want her to marry him, so she struggled a lot.
It took her 5 years to complete a ritual to get rid of him. He was not allowing her to go to Kerala and perform the rituals. She suffered a lot.
Why did this happen to her? It was because she was drying her hair on the terrace after taking a head bath at 11:00 pm. She had gone to the terrace with her hair left loose. This is where Gandharvan caught her. So, girls, don't do this in your life.

Nithya, this phenomenon of following can be explained. Once, I was going to my aunt's village in Uttarakhand, which is full of mountains. Due to some reason (actually, it is a big story), I reached there in the dark of night. It was scary. I couldn't see anything. Suddenly, it started raining. I was clueless as I was not aware of the path. I just knew that I had to cross this hill to reach the village. It was horrible because whenever there was lightning, my mind conjured up some furious images. I was seriously missing the torch that I usually kept with me, but not that night. Even now, I can't forget that night. I traveled for almost 2 hours. I saw snakes (as it was a jungle) and everything, animals hiding in bushes, but not a ghost.
So, after that, I came to the conclusion that spirits can only follow a person whom they can threaten. It's more like an animal that would attack only if it senses danger, is hungry, or if you are challenging it. My advice is to have confidence in yourself as we, as humans, are the strongest creatures in the world. And "YES," God has made us like this.

Yes, of course, you can call me Panks. Well, as per my understanding and conversation with people related to this field, they said:
- If a spirit comes to know you are getting afraid, they will follow.
- If they start liking you, they will follow.
- If they are called and harassed, they deny to leave and they follow.
- If you are related to their death somehow, they will follow.

Hi Friends,
You are discussing a topic that is not related to the basic principles of a website. However, it is interesting. It is a matter of belief and debate whether God exists or not. In every religion, there is a theory of birth and rebirth, but no one knows exactly what happens after death. I had come across a book a few years back in which this topic was discussed. Some of the photographs incorporated in that book clearly show images of human beings even though they were dead. The author has a strong belief that there is life after death. Hindu philosophy also states that there is rebirth until 'Moksha'. It is also believed that if a human being dies with some desire, they try to fulfill it by taking rebirth.
Regarding 'Ghosts', I believe that they do exist and this 'invisible soul' sometimes causes trouble for human beings. People with a strong spiritual background and support are not affected by this. Ghosts are usually powerful on a full moon day or a new moon day. I have experienced this myself.
I have also witnessed people who have been haunted by ghosts in the temple of Lord Dattatraya at Gangapur, Dist. Gulbarga, Karnataka State. A boy aged 9-10 years old was behaving and talking abnormally and confessed that he was haunted by the soul of a man who died in Aurthor Road jail somewhere in the 1950s. Women were also behaving abnormally in the temple.
Normally, people with poor spiritual protection and power are prone to ghosts. Individuals with a high level of spiritual power can sense places where haunting occurs. Generally, old forts, palaces, cemeteries, and places where unnatural deaths have occurred are where ghosts reside. One place near Ujjain known as Kalbhairav appears to be like this. Even during the daytime, one can experience a sense of 'fear' at the place.
The subject is vast and cannot be fully discussed in a short duration. However, one can share experiences on this blog.
Have a nice day.

Hi everyone, after a long time,
I guess this topic is getting more interesting day by day. Let me add some more.
My mom is a Keralite, so I used to spend all my summer vacations in my mom's hometown. There is a haunted house near her home. If you happen to see that home at night, I bet you will faint for sure!
As Pank said, once you cross that house after 12 am (sometimes during the afternoon too at 1 o'clock), you can expect a ghost following you to your home.
At the gate of this house, you can see a beautiful rose plant blossoming for all the seasons, but no one waters that plant, and no one dares to pluck it. At night, you can smell its fragrance all over the place, but it doesn't create happiness; rather, it instills fear in you.
Everyone has different stories about that house. I actually have some pictures of that house, but currently, I am using my laptop, or I would have posted them here.
Once, myself and my cousins dared to spend a complete night near that house (but not inside – believe me, I am not a hero in this story). So, we were completely boozing (but all remained conscious the whole night) and cracking jokes. As there were nearly five people at that time, we faced nothing. However, after that, all of my cousins experienced some unnatural occurrences. Some say they could smell the fragrance of roses when they were alone, and some say they could hear a small boy screaming during the night, not continuously but sometimes.
But till now, I haven't experienced anything like that. I guess that ghost must have hated me. Anyhow, I escaped.
Forgot to tell you one thing – I am not sure whether you could smell the fragrance of roses when it was raining, but we could smell it on that rainy night.
Next time, I will post one of the stories that my neighbor narrated about that house.

Hello friends!
Sorry for interrupting your conversation. I was actually seeking some other information when I came across this area. Buddies, I have a large collection of information on this since I have conducted extensive research. In fact, I have succeeded in finding scientific and logical proofs that God really exists. However, as I am running late for another program, I will have to end shortly. If God wishes, I shall share more of my findings regarding this tomorrow or within two days.
I have heard many ghost stories, and they all share certain common situations. Firstly, people who talk about ghosts mention that ghosts only appear at night and not during the day, indicating that a ghost is afraid of light. They also say that when you are alone or lonely, ghosts may harm you, but if you have company, the ghosts will not come near you. Why do ghosts hesitate to approach when there is a companion? Are they afraid of you or your companion, or is it because they cannot manage to attack two people at the same time? Even in that scenario, could a ghost come with company to attack? It seems clear that if ghosts exist, they are inherently fearful in nature. Unfortunately, people are scared even to hear stories about them. Moreover, these ghost stories are predominantly spread and believed in rural and village areas. It is noteworthy that you rarely hear about people seeing ghosts in cities or densely populated places. This suggests that these are fabricated stories intended to deceive those who believe in them. If anyone has proof of the existence of ghosts, please share it, for which I thank you in advance.
Ok guys, I am late.
Good night, see you all tomorrow (IAW)

Thank you, Mohsin,
But is it possible to provide a physical form of subtle (non-physical) items? If not, how can one present evidence? Even for some physical items, scientists are not sure. Different scientists have different results and opinions.

Pretham (Ghost): The Element of Air
The pretham (soul) of a person who commits suicide hovers around the place where he took his life or by the side of his house. The marine Hindu fisherfolk believes that when a pretham enters the body of a person he begins to act like a lunatic. When such symptoms appear, the Kaniyan (village astrologer), is immediately consulted, to identify the pretham and locate his abode. The astrologer, after identifying the spirits, directs the next of kin to contact a particular Mantravadi (sorcerer) for conducting a Homam (propitiatory rite) in order to get rid of the pretham. Accordingly, the Mantravadi is invited to perform the Homam. The Mantravadi draws a kalam (cabbalistic figure) in the courtyard with coloured powders. The figures of the supposed Pretham, Gandharvan and his wife Yakshi are drawn in the kalam. The Homam is performed after this. The belief is that once the propitiatory rites are conducted the pretham is consigned to flames. Sometimes an amulet is prepared for wearing around the waist of the possessed.
Akasa Gandharvan: Personification of the Sky
The supernatural power of Akasa Gandharvan, an ethereal goblin of the Mappila fisherfolk of Tanur, is described in my monograph, The Mappela Fisherfolk of Kerala. The Hindu fishermen believe that the Akasa Gandharvan is responsible for causing dissention between Lord Krishna and Arjuna. Krishna Kunhu, my Araya informant, said that Akasa Gandharvan possessed supernatural powers. Once when Krishna was offering prayers taking water in his right hand, the Gandharvan appeared in the sky in his chariot and disturbed the Lord's mind. The Lord's prayer stopped as froth from the Gandharvan's horse's mouth fell on his palm, thus polluting the water. Krishna became infuriated and vowed to teach the Gandharvan a lesson for his misbehaviour, and kill him before the sunset. Hearing this the Gandharvan was distressed. In order to save his life, he approached Brahma, Vishnu and Siva, but they did not oblige. Meanwhile, Narada appeared on the scene and advised the Gandharvan to seek the help of Arjuna who was spending his life incognito in the mountains along with his brothers. Narada then informed Krishna that the Gandharvan had gone to Arjuna's abode and decided to bring about a solution. He appeared in disguise before Arjuna and told him to go to sleep when Krishna killed the Gandharvan. He promised that he would restore the life of the Gandharvan. Krishna killed the Gandharvan before sunset as promised, but his life was restored by Brahma at once. Thus, the Hindu fishermen believe that the Gandharvan is still at large.
Kadutha: Ethereal Element
The Aryans of Cochin believe in a large number of spirits like Kuttichathan, Karumkutty, Pookutty and Kalladimuthan. The spirits of the dead wizards belonging to different castes like the Nairs, Irvas and Cherumans or Pulayans are also capable of making mischief, it is believed. For instance, the Aryans of Elangkunnapuzha propitiated on all important occasions Kadutha the spirit of a dead Nair sorcerer of the village. The spirit is housed in a shrine. This Nair sorcerer is believed to be a great devotee of Lord Ayyappan, whose shrine is at Sabarimala Kerala. Thus, Kadutha is worshipped by the Aryans for getting bumper catches and warding off diseases. Special propitiatory rites are performed in Kadutha's honour. The oracle of Kadutha dances before the shrine and predicts whether or not there will be good catches and about the recovery of the sick.
Marutha: Ethereal Spirit
The Aryans of Elangkunnapuzha believe that Marutha, the spirit of a Pulaya woman sorcerer, has supernatural powers in curing incurable diseases and preventing capsizing of boats at sea and getting bumper catches. Sometimes the Aryans worship her by making special offerings of liquor and meat ostensibly for getting ownership in fishing units. During the Mandalam (fast days from first of Vrichikam to the tenth of Dhanu), Marutha is offered beaten rice, puffed rice, molasses, plantains and camphor. It is interesting to note that although Marutha is the spirit of the Pulaya woman (scheduled caste), she is housed in a special shrine by the Aryans and propitiated on all important occasions, besides offering special worship.
Kotha: Ethereal Element
The Aryans of Elangkunnapuzha say that the spirit Kotha possesses miraculous powers in curing illnesses and saving the fishermen from hazards of the sea. Kotha is the spirit of a departed woman sorcerer who belonged to the Pulaya caste (agrestic serf). She is believed to be the sister of Marutha. The spirit is frequently worshipped by the Aryans by offering liquor and meat. A shrine has been built in her honour in the village for offering worship to her. During the Mandalam period only vegetarian dishes are offered to gods and goblins

Chitra,
If we discuss ghosts and their stories, it's fine, but you must not keep those discussions in mind. You must forget them then and there. Then it is fine. Ghosts will not come to you, da. Discuss and forget.

Dear Friends,
First of all, I am sorry I am too late in replying today. I hope you all have heard of this saying: "To the believer, no proof is required; to the sceptic, no proof is sufficient."
For example, if you are -- or say you are S. Nithya Sanjeev Krishna, but in fact, it is your name only, you are the sole of yourself, isn't it? Then it is a belief that you are someone whom people know as S. Nithya Sanjeev Krishna. It continues till life, but in between the rebirth time, your soul may be called a ghost or anything, but it is a fact and depends on the destiny of a soul. It may appear to exist to someone or not; it all depends. But there is nothing but a fear which is different and not visible to everyone, and hence all these types of stories come into books, etc.
Thanks a lot.

Dear friends,
It was in the year 1988 when I came to Kochi on a business tour. I reached the city around 11.30 pm and checked into a hotel (name withheld). My room number was 501. I might have fallen asleep around 12.30 or so. However, that night is one I can never forget. I woke up at least a dozen times as someone seemed to be waking me up by holding my hands. I could hear the person walking around the bed in that still night, the sound of their feet on the floor. The first three or four times, I turned on the light and checked, but there was nobody in the room. The next day was unproductive for me as this experience had really disturbed me.
I shared this incident with 4 or 5 friends in the city with whom I had meetings the following day. One of my friends accompanied me to the hotel in the evening. When we arrived, the receptionist informed us that my room was being changed, and I was to shift to room number ---. While I was moving my belongings, my friend had a confidential conversation with the receptionist.
Upon returning, my friend told me that a person had committed suicide in room 501 about 2 years prior, and the events of the previous night were a usual occurrence for anyone staying there. The hotel had no other available rooms the previous night, which is why they had assigned me that room.
Friends, I gathered my courage and checked out of the hotel within the next 15 minutes. This incident is not only known to me but also to at least a dozen people in Kochi.
Regards,
Seem

I have something to share with you all...
A guy in my team stayed in the office during night hours to complete the assignments. He had to stay and update some reports. He felt some tiny people standing close to him and running around him. The next day, he told us. Everyone laughed at him. But I could not take it as a joke, so I got a Hanuman photo and kept it at his desk, at least for his mental satisfaction.
He recently stayed again at night to complete some work. He again felt some people standing close to him. When he saw the Hanuman picture, it was turned backwards. He set the photo properly, and then it was fine.
What do you think this is? If it is just a feeling, why did the Hanuman picture turn backwards?
The other guy stayed in the office until 12:30 am the very next day, and he never had any such feeling.

Well, the general observation is that people with weak stars (in scientific terms, someone who's not in one of the good phases of life) get to see ghosts. One reason why dogs make weird sounds during late night is that it's a general belief that they can see ghosts. The scientific reason behind this is that their hearing capacity is much beyond humans.
Coming to the existence of ghosts, the reason is simple - if there is good, there is evil as well. It's like two sides of a coin.
