Hi Jayanta,

I used to work in an IT company. Some days back, I started facing problems with my eyes due to working on computers for long hours. My doctor suggested that I take some rest; otherwise, it could get severe. Since I can no longer work for extended periods on the computer, I decided to resign from my job and informed my company accordingly.

There was a clause in my appointment letter stating that I have to provide one month's notice or pay one month's salary to the company. Now, the company is threatening legal action if I do not complete the projects. Is there a possibility that I can cite my medical reasons for leaving the job? I have all the necessary medical documentation. Please advise me as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Why do you need to quit? Give them your doctor's certificate and tell them you have been advised for bed rest, and you will join them after you get well. Your co must have thought you are fooling them with this story. If you can go and visit them, even that will work. Or you can ask them to send someone to your house to verify personally. Communication is very important, or else it spoils the relationship for life.

Regards,
Asha

Hi,

Are you mentioning clearly about your reason for leaving the employment? Why are you leaving the organization? You can apply for sick leave by duly producing a doctor's medical certificate since it is valid. Please go through your appointment order to see if there is any clause regarding completing the job. Did you sign any legal bond when joining the employment? Please clarify so that we can provide you with a better reply.

Hi Jayanta,

I assume the severity of the eye problem is quite high - looks like you need to be on rest for a longer time. One thing I am sure of is that both the tension in the eye and brain are somehow related. It looks like you are even more stressed with what the company is saying now. Relax... they cannot do anything. Make sure that you have provided all medical proofs to them. If they want to go legal, let them go. It will only create a headache for them, and not for you, as you have "the medical proofs" and a genuine reason. THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING.

Now, what is essential is that you need some good amount of rest. Forget work - that is what taking rest means. Don't strain yourself too much. I guess you are still not obeying what your doc mentioned! Take care of your health!
