Hi everyone,

This is Greeshu, again with a problem.

I have completed 3 months of employment, but there are certain things that I have observed that are lacking in me:

1. Due to too much workload and my reticent nature, I am unable to bring up creative ideas in the office, such as what should be the menu for the Christmas party, what the gift items should be, and which games to organize. Other individuals with a lot of work experience take away the limelight, despite being in an ordinary position.

2. I always receive complaints regarding the salary calculations. I only provide a reference for the number of days each employee is present; the actual salary calculations are done by the accounting department based on the figures I provide. Since there is no specific cabin allotted to me (I sit with a senior person), my staff come in and out, disrupting my concentration. I also get easily frustrated and tense when even small things go wrong. I strive to be perfect.

Please suggest some tips regarding the above matters and also how to improve concentration. 🤔

Hi Grreshu,

1. You should take a printout of your salary slip and understand for yourself what salary structure the company has provided you. In case you do not understand, go to the person who handled your hiring in SAP and ask them to explain the CTC structure to you.
2. Secondly, as posted by somebody else, your profile may not appear as attractive to you, which may spark interest in you. However, if you start taking it seriously, things will be absolutely fine. Don't think it's too hard.
3. Lastly, nobody can be perfect. Just believe that you will be able to fulfill what the organization requires, and that belief will give you the confidence to move forward. :)

Ensure there is a single line break between paragraphs.

Hi Greeshu,

Don't get discouraged. Things will become more comfortable when you start thinking positively. Three months are not enough to understand everything. Keep up the good work and stay sincere in your approach.

Hi Greeshu,

What Dino had mentioned is absolutely right. Three months is not enough time to understand things, so don't get worried or tense. Try to stay calm and learn things. Stay positive. Everything takes its own time, so doing things without mistakes takes time, dear. Just chill and concentrate on your work.

Hi Greeshu,

Some suggestions:

1) Try to think differently; if others are giving ideas, praise them for that and try to think alike next time. You need to be extroverted in talking so that others listen to your ideas. Deciding the menu is no big deal, and for party games, try doing some reading and surfing. You will get many ideas.

2) Regarding salary calculation, understand from accounts how they actually calculate salary - various components such as tax, PF, basic, allowance, etc. If there are issues in salary calculations and an employee comes to you, if it's not within your scope, hand the call over to the accounts department to resolve the employee's query.

3) As for concentration, maybe because you are new, you are too concise. If an employee comes in and a senior is next to you, try to relax, enjoy talking to employees, and be at ease with your senior. Things will work out well. It will take time to adjust, but you will enjoy your job. Try making friends; it would help.

I hope these suggestions are helpful.

Best regards.

Greeshu,

You are very new to this profession. Let me tell you one thing. The same situation was with each one of us in the beginning. Don't put pressure on yourself. Try to talk to others. Try to know others' taste initially; then you can go to the top. Remember a few things. Always be positive and cool. Take advice from others, which will help you out in many ways.

Hi,

These are the typical first job blues, trust me!! All of us have gone through this. I can say from my personal experience too that the first 6-8 months of the first job are a difficult period, primarily because we have VERY high expectations from ourselves!

While we all want to be the best, we often don't realize that the word "best" would lose its meaning if it were so easy to become one!

The difference between an experienced and a fresh person is that the experienced one does smart work (which automatically happens because he has learned from his mistakes), and the fresh one does hard work - only because they are learning.

You would just need to keep the following things in mind:
- Be realistic about yourself and do not over expect.
- Do not compare yourself with people who have more experience than you have. It's just the comparison that makes us feel small!! Even your boss was once a fresher, and trust me, he made as many silly mistakes as you do.
- Learn from your mistakes... that's the only thing that will make the difference.
- Try to get the basics right.
- Do not hesitate to ask questions. You will ask those apparently "silly questions" for not more than another 5-6 months because after that, you would know it all!
- Most importantly, always remember - We only move from hard work to smart work. There aren't any shortcuts. Those who don't work hard initially never reach that stage of smart work!!
- Last but not least - the boss knows it all, just the way our parents do, only because even he has been there, done that! If you are honest with your work and are working hard, you are getting noticed!!

Trust me, this period won't last for more than a couple more months! Just take one day at a time and move on!

All the best,
Arpita

Hi Greeshu,

Don't feel disheartened. Please make a note of your mistakes while pointing out others. Don't feel ashamed to discuss and get clarification. Stay positive, as it will be a stepping stone.
