Hi Seniors,

I am a fresher and have recently joined a good software CMMI - L5 company. My superior has assigned me the task of analyzing the leaves taken by the employees in the organization.

I am a little confused about how to start this work and what parameters I can use to analyze the leaves to draw meaningful insights from the data.

The analysis is being conducted on two grounds:

1. People who have taken more leaves and vice versa.

It would be greatly helpful if you could suggest some parameters (e.g., productivity) that I could correlate with the leave data to derive meaningful conclusions.

Thanks in advance.

Rakesh

Hi Rakesh,

How about these:
- Number of sick leaves taken on average. Check the reasons as well.
- Average number of people on leave in any given month.
- If possible, check the reasons given for leave and see if you can group them.
- See in which period most of the employees are taking many leaves.
- Average number of leaves taken by employees in different management levels - lower, middle, and senior.

As of now, I can think only of these. I shall let you know if I can think of any other ways to analyze leaves.

Hi Deepthi,

Thank you so much for your response. Yes, the suggestions do seem to give me some clarity on what needs to be done, and especially the comparison of the leaves taken by different levels of management is really valuable to me and would help me.

Thank you so much once again. Please do let me know of any further suggestions as they would aid in my analysis and help me further.

Hi Rakesh,

There must be a leave policy in your organization. Take the help of that in your analysis. When you are calculating the leaves availed by the employees, categorize them such as:
- illness
- holiday
- leave without pay

Then calculate how many employees took leave on what basis for every month.

Thank you, Akhila, for your reply. The problem in our organization is that we do not have the concept of sick leaves, and the employee can avail only Paid leaves (18 in number) for any reason. So, in that sense, it will be tedious for me to actually check every leave report and then categorize them.

Having said that, I am actually looking for some parameters (e.g., Productivity) which would be affected because of taking leaves, and thus concentrate on the effect of leaves. I would urge all the seniors to pour in more ideas with respect to this subject.

Thanking you all.
