Can any one help with the below situation. My friend is working in one of the private companies and they had my friend signed on an agreement on their letter heads naming it as employee agreement and calling it as a gentle agreement.the employee is asked to stay for certain period of time and when the employee wants to leave the firm the HR is either holding the relieving letter and issuing it only when the reason stated is completely justified at the end of the period or recovering huge amount from the employee. No where the agreement has a financial obligation mentioned on the lletter head content. How can my friend stop this and what will be the repurcusiion. can they go against them legally.

Generally speaking such agreements have no legal validity. An employer cannot force any employee to remain in service through an agreement/ bond.
