Hi E'body,

I am working as a Consultant/Client Partner with an exec search firm. Currently, having 8+yrs of work exp.. in various fields such as ops, sales, etc. Educational backgrd- B.Sc + MDBA course (distance edu) from Symbiosis Pune in 2003. Was abroad for the past 4yrs & absolutely out of touch with the job market/industry.

Due to family reasons, can now take up only part time work assgnmnts. However, also gathering info on some HR courses(pref for 6mths- 1 yr) from reputed institutes to update myself with the current HR trends in industry.. I've jst got to know abt the ISTD course for Training & Dev recently. However, as I do not have any training background, nt sure if this would be a right choice for me.. though wd be keen on getting into Training if gvn an opportnty..

Would like to know how can I do a self audit to know if there exists a trainer inside me .. further wd also want to know, will doing ISTD enable one to get into a suitable role in Rectmt & training dept irrespective of age criteria ?

Regds..

Hi,
Thank you for your post.... I just created a Questionnaire on 'How trainable am I?’ Take it and you will figure out.
As far as ISTD is concerned it is a good career option as it is a good stamp and knowledge collection. If you are looking at skills, workshop by Middle Earth Consultants is pretty good.
You may like to explore the option of training by volunteering your services for an institution. See how it goes and then you might plan your career…
All the best!

Hi Shweta,
Does the thought of training and influencing others excite you?
Do you think you can become a good teacher?
Do you like being with people?
Are you willing to devote the rest of your life to learning and training?
If yes, then ISTD is the right place for you.
Option A - Full time regular program
Option B - Long distance program
There is no other program which is as well recognised in the area of T&D.
Also - Please deliberate upon the questionnaire given by Atul.
I am sure you will find your answer.
Please feel free to post more questions/ clarifications, we are here to help you.
@ Atul - Your questionnaire was terrific, to the point, well constructed.
It is just amazing, thanks for sharing it.
Best wishes

I am a student of ISTD and let me tell you, the knowledge & networking done during this course definitely helps you to upgrade your skills. Now whether you would want to make your career in T&D, Recuitment or HR- Generalist would be a call you need to take. BUT ISTD will surely enlighten the training skills of individual.

Thanx a lot to each one of you for your feedback which is indeed very valuable to me at this stage.
Atul - Thanx for your efforts taken to build a questionnaire, shall certainly chk & revertback..
Riyaz & Anand : Appreciate ur response too. Shall definitely give a thought over the same and take the best decision possible.
Is it also true that a trainer should have good stamina.. good enough to stand for 7-8 hours to conduct the training program. . What abt those who are involved as part time trainers..? Secondly, what does the role of a Trainer in a Recruitment & training func include ....
Thnx ..
