Hi All,
I just wanted to know whether there are any HR laws laying controls on Background verification feedback given by managers about their reportees / Ex-reportees.
I mean, if a manager gives a negative feedback about his/her ex team member deliberately or due to any personal grudge or because he / she is leaving the company during the needy time or even simply, are there any rules strictly laid by HR management that would strictly warn the manager or even prevent him doing so. Please advise, considering an MNC environment.

Negative feed back if defamatory in nature can have legal remedies. But general comments not painting in you in good light can have damaging effects.
There is no real remedy for such conduct.
Legally you can take up by notice, courts etc,but proving it will be almost impossible,
If you are given a bad BGV ask for a copy and see what can be done to remedy this inaccurate portrayal of your work, character etc. This is important because it can affect future jobs.

Hi Thanks Sir, No i did not get any bad background verification, but just wanted to check on that.
Could you please clarify on "general comments not painting in you in good light"?
Also, is background verification done in HR level alone or it can also be asked to the reporting manager?. Please advise.

General comments not painting you in good light could mean making a general statement he/she is not hard working, keeps talking on mobile etc.
No words that can be called defamation but in general showing a person as poor worker etc.
Companies do cross verify from reporting managers also.
I personally sometimes receive calls from other companies cross checking about how my erst while subordinate was when working with me.
Many private companies are very particular about BGV.
