Hi,
It requires to understand where you need to be and where you need not be.
In pushing sale figures,in turning around an organization from a deep red position, in making the lazy staff to contribute, in cutting off the office politics, in weeding out the unhelathy competition you need to be aggressive.
While dealing with team mates, bosses, customers, shareholders, complex human situations, tricky business situations, if you are agrressive you get very bad and abrasive reaction back. Afterall agression is like a concrete wall with a ball to be thrown at. You get back the ball at the same speed at which you throw it at the wall. Some times even at an injurious speed.

Yes. Mr. dayanand has made it very clear. There is a very thin layer between being aggressive and being assertive. If you know the difference, you can best use it.

I also agree with the gentlemen here with regards to professional/work situations.
However, I also believe that a certain amount of aggression in the mental make-up helps/is necessary... for one, people do not try push/maraud you, and it is an essential element in a good personality. The aggression element need not be overt, but if there, is subtly visible .

Being Aggressive and Assertive are very different things, and difference isn't hairline. Having an aggression in mental make up and behaving aggressively are not synonymous.
To know why the aggressive behaviour is not OK but aggression in mental make up is and what assertive behaviour is one better goes through the appropriate literature on the subject--one that I know of and have too (not in e-form) is the book by M Burly Allen

I agree with most of the point on the difference between the Aggression and Assertiveness. But in my opinion it is the opposite person whom we are handling is responsible for our behaviour and the first approach is assertive and in no response situation we need to use the aggression which the person involved will also understand.

Aggressive behavior or attitutde ahs no place in any feild of management least of all in realtionship building which is the foundation of all management concept. Assertive behavior is also to be well placed , when , where and how, assertion in any degree in excess will percipitate as agressive behaviour.Assertion is better when clear knowledge of the subject and the subject delt with will help bring desired result.one needs to learn and learn from experience this fine skill.

Hi
being agressive is not good in office environment . being assertive is good for your health and for your quality of worklife. you should understand the difference between assertive vs aggressive and between sumissive vs manipulative.

Aggression is something which all living beings possess. At some point of time this aggression may come out in the form of physical, mental or verbal means. Assertiveness is sometimes confused with aggression. I agree with Dayanand about the difference.

We have seen people using the word aggressive: mostly in sports. But sometimes people confuse that being aggressive may be good and helps in achieving results. Youngsters sometimes ask me that if aggressive captaining has led Dhoni to win the match for India, why is this aggression not good for us? For me, it is the way one uses his/her body language which shows the form of aggression. Prolonged Aggression may cause illness to a person. A person should always having an Attitude. By Attitude, I mean positive attitude and not EGO. If a person doesn't thing that he/she have attitude then it would be difficult for him/her to achieve something.

Hope we get somebody to share experiences of aggression in their worklife or daily life. We can all learn from each other.
