Hi
I have practised TAT ( Thematic Apperception Test) for a number of years and found the results very useful. The tests themselves are time consuming( writing on the base of a picture- standard 6 tests take 30 mts). The evaluation is the tricky part, can only be done by highly trained practitioners. The interpretation also needs considerable practice but if well used, can be a major source of info on the personality of the individual.Koreth consultants based in Delhi are among the best practitioners of TAT that I have used. You could contact them for more, authentic details.

Sir
Tat is turn around time which is highly manipualated by most of the organisation to show better result.
Effective monitoring of turn around time can revolutionalise the process of doing work. We have to strenghen the system to achieve the TAT fixed by organisation . But, sometimes TAT is fixed without necessary planning and hence manipulation starts causing harm to the system and organisation.
Regarding Thematic apperception test, the trainers must be qualified and capable of hanling especially because there is enough chaces of manipulation in the process. Some peoplw who has exposure of such type of test can use this for own benefits. Time given should be very tight so peoplewill be forced to give give correct picture about himself.
So this test should be taken in a group of tests and judgememnt should not be based on this only.

'Turn Around Time' is used as a tool to measure and improve the efficiency in a different business processes. Generally management decide certain TAT for a business process and management expects to complete that process as per TAT and also endeavor to improve the TAT. I quote below some practical examples from HR field and other fields as well:
  • Many companies have set TAT for recruiting replacements for employee leaving the organization. TAT will be decided based on the availability and efforts required to recruit a particular vacancy and TAT will be different for different positions. Say a TAT set for getting a replacement for a Software Engineer would be one month from the date of receipt of resignation. A replacement should be identified by following set selection process and Appointment Letter should be issued within a month from the date of receipt of resignation. Another TAT in same case will be to have replacement on board within 2 months from the receipt of resignation. Efficiency of recruitment process and recruitment staff will be measured by studying compliance to TAT
  • Another common example of TAT is from Banking & Finance Industry. They have a set TAT for disbursement of Housing / Vehicle Loan, from the date of receipt of all necessary documents from the customer. Concerned department is expected to complete verification of documents and other facts, get the approval from concerned authority and issue a disbursement letter within a set TAT
  • To effectively implement TAT there has to be a proper system and software support in place to monitor TAT of each individual business process. In the example of Loan processing quoted above, monitoring of TAT where hundreds of loan files are processed is possible only if there is a computerized system is in place wherein login of each operation / process of each file is done at each stage.

Thematic Apperception is developed by "Murray" is a projective psychological test. In India it is standardised by Prof. Uma Chaudhury. In this test the client will be exposed to some picture cards and produce a story out of each card. In the original TAT (MURRAY), 32 cards were used. The indian adoptation of it requires one to use 10 picture cards plus a blank card. The interpretation of this is based on the theory of psychoanalysis. One need to be trained to interprete these stories. It is mostly been used by a clinical psychologist for diagnosing or therapeutic purpose. sometimes it is used for recruitment purpose also (shorter version of it-with few cards). There is a separate similar test available for children, that is called as Children's appreception test. TAT is used only for adults...

Hi,
TAT is Turn Around Time, very commonly used by commercial banks. TAT is fixed for different task and the person/s responsible is/are expected to complete the task within the fixed time frame. For example, if a loan proposal is submitted to a Bank, there are different TAT for each process, say, the bank should inform the applicant whether the proposal can be considered or not within 7 days. The said 7 days period is TAT for that task.

As encountered, it is Thematic Appreciation Test. Just like what others here said that there is a standard set of pictures where the subject is being asked what is the picture, what are they doing, who are the people...and the like. Out of the story that is being provided by the subject, a common theme is being analyzed such as a particular conflict or whatever. Therefore, the reaction and the characters the subject used to depict in the pictures serves as the projection of his/her psche and may be used by the psychologist to understand better the person.

This site is for HR. Therefore in the instant question TAT will represent as "Turn Around Time". This Management technique is well known to all, All works, plan, projection, implementation, procurement, finishing and Marketing etc. should have its own fixed time to complete the task just to avoid further Opportunity cost, variable cost and prime cost including other costs also. Net result is - risk taking management to maximize the Net Return of the Firm/Industry/establishment. Risk is one of the element of consideration to maximize the profit. TAT is one of the factor.
It requires for maximum discussion, However in a nut shell it is discussed. PRIYA BRATA CHAKRABARTI, RETD. MANAGER PER & HR.

To my understanding TAT is a time managment benchmark and such an open adjustible parameter, which any individual, professional or corporation may fix or adjust on the basis of test, mock reherssal and other inputs for accomplishing a task in most efficeint time frame, for the best of time management
