I do not know if you are still in India. If we have a job opening in safety...I would want to hire you ....so that you could be the celeberated one. HSE for us is the prime focus!!

Dear All,

Thanks for highlighting this issue. Safety is followed well in the MNC's & not in Indian Companies. I have worked in many companies [Indian as well as MNC's / Small & Large]. The things I have learned is that:
  • Safety always percolates from TOP to Bottom.
  • Safety should be everybody's responsibilty.
  • The top management should be committed towards safety. If the TOP BOSS have committment towards Safety / EHS, everything goes well. Its not like that Safety Professionals are not able to convince the management. The top management people are not spoon feeding childrens. They knows everything. Safety is much of Common Sense.
  • I agree that Safety Professionals must be passionate. They must have proper knowledge of all PPE's available in Market. They should select PPE's which are user friendly. It should give comfort to workers. The sizes are very important. Everything is available in market for evry hazard. [But cost matters, again the committment from management]
  • All the supervisors & staff memebrs should become the role model in front of emploees. If they dont use PPEs then howcome workers will use it? Many times management people roam on the shop floor w/o ppe's.
  • Safety committee should have participation form workers. In that various issues will be solved but only when the EHS Committed TOP BOSS is chairman.
  • Leadership safety tours should be arranged by staff memebrs [Not only by EHS specialist]. They should go on the shop floor, safety should be only focus. They should find out the safe / unsafe behaviours. Appreciate the workers for good things they are doing, Convince the workers for usage of PPEs as they are their younger brothers. This type of care taking approach helps a lot.
  • Involve the workers in various activities like auditing, safety tours, make them responsible for EHS topics etc.
  • There are many things to share but time is constraint.......
Can call me on 9223456783 if want to discuss. [In the evening]

Rgds,

Sachin Thorat.
