Dear All,
our organisation had kept an off on 1st of jan,but few employees from my organisation where flying back to mumbai after attending a business function on the 1st itself. Are they entitled for an compensatory off?
Thanks

In my view, they should be given compensatory off since you declared holiday on 1st jan and they were on travel on duty on the same day. B.Saikumar Mumbai 09930532927

Well, if they reached in the morning of 01st Jan you need not give a compensatory off. If they were travelling for the entire day you may give one.
Depends!! Many companies have a policy that they give comp off only if the employee is working (& not travel) on a holiday or week off. Quite debatable but yes many companies do so. Some have a policy of comp off against bill raised. Again weird!
Well, if your company is concerned about employees then you should.

Thank you Saikumar n Hiral for your inputs, actually we are into night club industry the employees had gone for a new years opening and they were just returning on 1st. They landed here in mumbai around 5 in the evening but that was due to flight availability and not because of any work, still are they entitled for a comp off??

Hi, Sure they are entitled, because they were delayed due to the flight availability. As you say they landed only at 5pm on a holiday day. Regards Anita
